Moncler Gamme Rouge backstage amazingness…

With Giambattista Valli at the helm of Moncler Gamme Rouge – the house’s super high end, almost couture arm, it’s really no surprise that what he sent down the fake snow-lined catwalk was so luxurious, so sparkly, so AMAZING.

The show, apparently, was in three parts. First up, models in big fur jackets (a little too much fur for my liking) with huskies as accessories, padding down the catwalk and sniffing out the FROW. Next saw hunky men, zip-wiring onto the catwalk in uber luxury ski-wear, and lastly crystallised jackets, mittens and hats and, erm, men dressed as polar bears.

What Valli does with Gamme Rouge is pure magical. I’m only looking at the catwalk shots and I’ve been transported into a super glamorous skiing wonderland. Imagine what it’s like actually at the show. And again at the actual ski resort with the posh women dressed head-to-toe in this collection.

An eleganza extravaganza, as Rupaul would call it. And a triumph for Moncler. Those mountain and icicle print pieces were EPIC!

Vanity Fair Party 2013 Best Dressed… MY GOODNESS there’s lots!

Oh my God, never mind the Oscars red carpet, the Vanity Fair after party saw some of the best dresses of the season/year/century. From Giambattista Valli to Stephane Rolland couture (YAY), finally some of the dresses I’ve been DYING to see on a red carpet are shown off in all their glory.

It has left me thinking though, WHY OH WHY DIDN’T SOME OF THESE STARS WHERE THESE DRESSES TO THE ACTUAL OSCARS????

Actually a bit speechless right now, these dresses. THESE DRESSES…

 ***Kate Beckinsale in Monique Lhuillier***
I have to start with Kate because she is my ultimate girl crush. This is why I love award season, Kate comes out, all dressed up, looking like this. The rest of the year, she’s grocery shopping. What a STUNNING dress. And straight from Lhuillier’s most recent autumn/winter 2013 collection too. That means something. It means she’s CHIC.

***The Bingbings – Fan and Li***
I thought Fan had excited us enough with her pink Marchesa dress from the Oscars, obviously not. This monochrome Oscar de la Renta gown is AH-MA-ZING. And friend (no relation apparently) Li, Gucci’s brand ambassador, totally owned this turquoise trouser suit from the spring 2013 collection. What a pair!
***Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein***
See, her Oscars dress was a bit predictable for me. However, this sparkler was so unexpected! It’s youthful, dramatic and GORGEOUS. She should have chosen this for the Oscars.
***Karolina Kurkova in Atelier Versace***
Yes, she’s a model, and yes, the dress looks almost the same as it did on the catwalk, but it’s still so nice to see it out and about, on a red carpet. Love the playfulness of it, look at that smile, it says it all!
***Anne Hathaway in Saint Laurent***
THIS should have been her Oscars dress. THIS IS THE ONE. It’s still a very her aesthetic (i.e. a tad safe), but a million times better than nipple-gate Prada. Apparently Anne decided to wear the Prada dress three hours before her appearance on the red carpet. This should have been the one she changed too.

 ***Kristen Chenoweth in Giorgio Armani***
She’s a little red carpet dynamo, and in this uber romantic dress, she looks the best she has done for a long time. Not that she ever looks bad, but she did choose a rather spangly dress for the Oscars. This one is miles better if you ask me!

***Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli couture***
Another dress I was dying to see on the red carpet, thank you Diane. It’s got a really gorgeous cape back, that you can just about make out here. I love love love this shape. She looks tres chic.

***Irina Shayk in Stephane Rolland couture***
Irina who? It doesn’t matter who she is (Russian model), it’s this dress that matters. THIS DRESS! You may know that Stephane Rolland is one of my all time favourite designers, thank GOD someone wore one of his amazing designs this award season. JUST PURE WOW.

***Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Andrew Gn***
I’m in LOVE with this dress. It’s not sparkly or glitzy, so I know it’s a surprise I love it so much, but the monochrome, the pockets and this new shape – a big, bell, full skirt – is really ticking all the boxes for me. Well done Mary, you look stunning.

***Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta***
Oooo she’s done well, our Amy.  What a corker… floor length, fringed, perfection.

***Naomi Watts in Emilio Pucci***
From a gorgeous sci-fi-ish Armani Prive gown, to this contouring, black and gold goddess gown, Naomi is my new one to watch. WOW.

***Jane Fonda in Reem Acra***
One last one, and to finish on Jane Fonda leaves me smiling. Another FAB dress from the 75-year-old. Age appropriate, sexy and shows off that amazing body. She’s at the top of the red carpet game!

The Royal Tram – Her Maj and Prince Philip in Melbourne…

What better way to see a city than aboard the Royal Tram! Which is EXACTLY how Her Majesty the queen and Prince Philip travelled around Melbourne today on their tour of the city.

Apparently this was the first time since 2002 the Queen had ridden a tram – the last time was in Manchester. Something tells me this one was more exciting… seeing as it also had her initials on the extra little screen at the top!

And didn’t she look lovely? Dressed in one of her favourite summer colours, the Queen opted for a pretty floral dress and a fuchsia pink collar-less coat, reminding me slightly of the Giambattista Valli or the Alexander McQueen option, and matching hat!

Love her!!

Sarah Jessica Parker in red cape dress… only Giambattista Valli, no biggie!

She’s been Ms Fashion for quite a while now… well, a good few years anyway, so it’s no real surprise that when Sarah Jessica Parker hits the red carpet she chooses haute couture. And last night she did just that for the ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ film presentation in Moscow, wearing Giambattista Valli.

What a very apt name. I don’t know she does it… makes any dress look uber fabulous. This red Giambattista Valli couture 2011 gown, equipped with matching cape, was probably one of the most ‘wow’ standout frocks from the collection, and SJP looks so… comfortable in it. May not sound difficult to do, but this dress definitely has the potential to a) wear the owner rather than the other way round and b) look a little too Red Riding Hood – not on her. She rocked it!

I’ve gushed about the whole Valli couture collection before, but see SJP’s dress on the catwalk here

Haute Couture Heaven: Giambattista Valli, get in my wardrobe!

I’m swooning. As I write, I’m swooning. The haute couture shows always do this to me, it’s all so exciting. The chance for designers, young and old, to really show off; use materials they wouldn’t normally, step away from ready-to-wear and channel all energies in creating a collection of uber fabulous, one off pieces. Giambattista Valli, in his first couture show ever, completely set the catwalk alight, and has made me swoon with every dress. Have I said swoon enough? Swoon swoon swoon Valli swoon.

Anyway. In the past Valli’s ready-to-wear collections have, in some way, all verged on the edge of couture in that his constant precision detailing and amazing cocktail dresses all look like special one-off pieces that couture is all about. However, in this, his first couture show, he’s pulled out all the stops. There was many an ostrich feather, lots of appliqués, long long trains of pink and black froth and billowing chiffon capes that make me gasp with delight!

In short, bring on the red carpets! DVF may be the queen of wrap dresses, but Valli, it seems, is king of the cocktail and WOW dresses. Who else can see J Lo in that white belted number with big shoulders (reminiscent of ‘that’ red hot Gucci dress of a few weeks ago)?? And I’d LOVE to see Miss Huntington-Whiteley in that slinky leopard print gown. I can even see Jane Fonda in that black to-the-floor dress equipped with white cape. YUM! OMG I can’t wait to see these on the red carpets.

A beautiful, triumphant first venture into couture Mr. Valli. Anyone think it wrong to want to see that last black gown, the fountain of black feathers, on a bride??

Scroll down to have a peek!
