The Emmy Awards 2012 red carpet ‘Very’ best bits…

Every now and again there is an awards ceremony red carpet that is full with great DOS rather than lots of ugly DONTS. The Emmy awards 2012 was one of those. I have to say, I’m suitably impressed. I think it might be the looming end to fashion week that has the celebrities pulling out their best dresses – actually two of the below looks are direct from the catwalks of fashion week last week.

The Americans know how to do it well. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, our British red carpets are a sorry sorry affair in comparison: full with desperate Big Brother people, the odd page three girl, a TV chef or two and a plethora of blonde presenters that are now all merging into one person.

Thank God for the USA!

My best dressed of the night, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi in a Valentino jumpsuit. Just incredible. The ultimate in lesbian power dressing!
Fresh off the London fashion week catwalk, Nicole’s Antonio Berardi dress is surely one of her best ever? No off milk look in sight!

Christina Hendricks’ boobs look like two bald heads escaping this Christian Siriano gown, but I LOVE it nonetheless (can she breathe?)

You gotta love Christine Baranski. A sparkly mini dress at 60 AND it looks great!

It’s nice Claire, but could you have done better? Yes, me thinks.

There’s something amazing and something not so amazing about this Monique Lhuillier gown. I think Ginnifer Goodwin knows it too. I can’t put my finger on it though…

Glenn Close… that’s all.

I know she’s in Heroes (coz I googled her) but I don’t know anything else about Hayden Panettiere, although I know this Marchesa brand new spring summer 2013 Indian inspired frock is perfect.

Heidi Klum looks as bored as I do. Haven’t we seen her in something like this before? It’s stunning, don’t get me wrong, but a tad predictable. Love the hair though.

Zac Posen knows how to do froth. January Jones is another best dressed for me!

It’s mermaids all round this year, and Julianne Hough is leading the pack in her mint green Georges Hobeika couture gown. It’s sugary sweet, and looks fab!

And the best strap mark award goes to… Julianna Margulies! No, I shouldn’t joke, for she is wearing one of my all time favourite designers – Giambattista Valli. And this garden frock does actually look gorgeous on her.

Hmmm. I want to love this so badly Julianne Moore, but I just can’t get passed the no-shape thing. On the catwalk, this Dior Couture two-piece looked great, but maybe that’s where it should have stayed. At least now we know you can do yellow though!

Aww doesn’t Kathy Griffin look divine in Oscar de la Renta? A little safe, but flawless nonetheless.

My God she’s tiny, again! Kelly Osbourne favours Zac Posen for the catwalks, and this is why. Especially when the gown matches the hair.

Meet warrior woman Lucy Liu. Versace at her disco-ball best!

Nancy O’Dell’s (who?) orange-y red gown is interesting… I do love that lightening bolt strap!

It’s heart warming to see Sofia Vergara’s Hollywood smile. What an absolute knock-out in aqua Zuhair Murad. Not many people could pull this off, definitely not on the British red carpets anyway!

And lastly Zooey Deschanel in frothy Reem Acra. It’s playful, young and gorgeous all in one. Good work.

Met Gala – Chic and Eeek moments!

This post really needs no introduction. I think you get it all from the title. But just a couple of things… Anna Dello Russo, Rupaul and Dolly Parton were NOT in attendance which upset me greatly, and it seems long sleeved gowns, metallic and orange were this years winners!

Here’s my rundown…

***Diane Kruger – my joint best dressed – left my jaw on the floor! THIS is how to work the red carpet. Stunning colour on her, stunning detail… STUNNING PRADA!***
***Beyonce works this purple and black Givenchy couture for all it’s worth. Which is a LOT! Those post-baby curves are looking fabulous Bey!***
***Sofia Vergara smiles like that because her Marchesa down is SOO friggin’ fabulous!***

***January Jones sticks with Atelier Versace… GOOD GIRL. What a stunner!***

***Carrying on the canary trend, Solange takes a leaf out of her sister’s book – ‘The Amazing Knowles’. This Rachel Roy dress is perrfect for her!***

***Christina Ricci’s bow-back Thakoon dress is testament to an amazing designer. Oh, and the bow is bigger than he is!!***
***Mia Wasikowska in capped sleeve Prada and Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte – both as amazing as each other, and serving up Victoriana and 80s realness in abundance!***
***She’s not normal! How is anyone this striking? Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Burberry dress is probably not that nice, but on her it’s INCREDIBLE!***
***Carey Mulligan in sparkly Prada – GREAT length on her, and Jessica Alba in gold Michael Kors – her complexion + this colour = perfection***
***Give me a Mary Katrantzou dress any day Elizabeth Banks! An acquired taste, leaving me hungry for more!***

***Marion Cotillard’s chic yet revealing Dior dress is SO her. What a great match!***
***Rosario Dawson in Calvin Klein Collection and Gisele in Givenchy***
***Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen and Rooney Mara in custom Givenchy***
***I didn’t know if I liked this at first, now I do! Cameron Diaz looks off-the-clock in Stella McCartney’s glittering gown***
***If ever there was a way to do a spring colour to a spring event, this is it! Emily Blunt, this is why I LOVE you – and your Calvin Klein Collection frock!***
***The big O’s – Ginnifer Goodwin’s custom Monique Lhuillier was a corker, as was Katherine McPhee’s Elie Saab moment. Orange is IN people!***
***Ivanka Trump is a surprise one for me to love, but I do! What a gorgeous dress!***
***Emma Stone in an oh-so-cute red Lanvin (doing it for the short dresses!), and Debra Messing showing some sexy cleave in her KaufmanFranco gown***
***Nina Dobrev’s amaze-train Donna Karen Atelier gown adds some much needed drama to the red carpet. Breathtaking!***

***From the front, I don’t like it, but from the side, I love it! Can Gwynie walk sideways in her Prada please?***

***I love Janelle, but not keen on this jumpsuit. It looks a little… tight? And Liv’s Givenchy… she could do better!!***
***Scarlett Johansson’s Dolce & Gabbana dress should be nice, but I can’t seem to like it! Considering she’s usually so sexy, this is not good!***

***I want SO much to like these two, but I’m struggling. SJP’s Valentino dress is slightly too much, although she DOES make it her own, and Coco Rocha’s homage to vintage Givenchy is not really what we expect on the red carpet for the Met Gala!***
***YES, Rihanna looks fab, and YES Tom Ford’s dress is amazing, but there’s something missing here. But I’m not sure what exactly!***
***I don’t care if this is McQueen, I just think it’s hideous! Florence, usually you get it so right. This is not one of those times!***

***Chloe Sevigny, this is a mess! Is it me or does she look like a cheap version of Denise Welsh? A Miu Miu disaster!***
***Eva Mendes’ orange Prada is pretty dowdy if you ask me, and Shailene Woodley’s Christopher Kane dress is not one of my favourites either!***
***I so look forward to see what Jessica Chastain wears, but not this time. This blue tiered Louis Vuitton dress is ALL WRONG for The Help actress. Stick with slinky and emerald green love!***
***Another non-smile from Kristen Stewart. No wonder! This Balenciaga is a quick way to end up on the Worst Dressed lists of all the fashion mags!***

***And the best dressed Aliens go to – Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe and Mary-Kate Olsen in her own Row dress***
***Ooops, Milla Jovovich got her Prada gown caught in a shredder. Please tell me that’s the case??***
***Here’s the thing, I should LOVE this Dolce & Gabbana OMG moment gown and cape that the delicious Italian socialite Bianca Brandolini wears, but I think it’s even a bit too much for me… OH GOD, what’s happening to me!!!! Who am I kidding, it’s AMAZING.***

The Oscars 2012 ‘Very’ best bits from the red carpet…

Whaaaaaaaaa the climax of award season ladies and gents… THE OSCARS!!

Who cares about who won what (well, apart from Meryl obvs!), it’s all about WHO WORE WHO and which A Listers looked amaze!

Here’s a few of my favs…

*Gwynie’s Tom Ford gown and cape set the (white) standard of the night.
Utterly gorgeous and full of timeless chic*
*A dark horse… my next best dressed – Shailene Woodley in a
statuesque Valentino couture gown. So classy!*

*That leg is working over time Angie! And the black velvet Atelier Versace
gown speaks for itself – she’s bringing sexy back!*

*This is a master class of how to dress for your body… THANK GOD
FOR OCTAVIA SPENCER! Her obsession with Tadashi Shoji sure
is paying off. Having a focus in the middle of a gown like this
takes pounds off!!*

*Don’t love this Armani Prive dress, but I think overall
Penelope oozes Hollywood glamour like no other*

*Not a wow gown, but a gorgeous safer option. Marchesa too,
so Sandra can’t go wrong really!*

*Erm Jennifer, are you in there? You look STUNNING!
What a fab Zuhair Murad wonder!*
*Short of breaking into Giambattista Valli’s studio myself
and wearing one of his couture gowns, I was dying to one on the red
carpet, and Emma Stone does a great job! Perfect for her skin tone too*

*Oh Meryl, how we love you! Best Actress accolade, and a best
dressed from me too. Gold lame Lanvin has NEVER looked so good!
*Just as I was beginning to tire of Michelle Williams’ too-old-for-her
choices, she does this! Loving the LV, and the pink and red clash too!*
*Jessica Chastain is one to watch, not only as a new brilliant actress,
but in the fashion stakes. A testament to McQueen’s design*

*I can give or take George, it has to be said, but Stacy…
OMGorgeous!! That liquid Marchesa does absolute wonders
for her! I’d gladly but her on my mantle piece!*
*Is it just me or does Rooney Mara look a bit… awkward??
WHY dear? You’re wearing Givenchy for God’s sake!!!!*

*Cameron Diaz, love, I’m a bit over this strapless obsession of yours.
The Gucci dress is lovely, but it’s just a bit.. mehhh*

The Very SAG Awards 2012 red carpet rundown…

The knockouts…

*Sofia Vergara’s sex appeal is nothing short of miraculous,
especially in this custom Marchesa gown. Best dressed nominee!*
*Daring in green, Emily Blunt never seems to fail in
the red carpet fashion race! Oscar de la Renta at his best!*

*I can’t get enough of Meryl. One of the best dressed at the Golden
Globes, she’s done it again in Vivienne Westwood couture! GORGEOUS*

The really good surprises…

*She usually tries a little too hard, our Kelly, but last night
she looked INSANELY amazing in white Badgley Mischka.
Best dressed nominee!*

*Rose Byrne took a big risk in this crystallized Elie Saab jumpsuit,
and it paid off. So well put together, including the hair!*

*Tilda went unusually feminine last night in this Grecian Lanvin
gown, a move away from her favoured androgyny look. And I likey!*

*Jessica Chastain dresses for her hair it seems, and didn’t
she do well in blue Calvin Klein?*

*Ultra glamorous in Reem Acra, Glee’s Jayma Mays
sent the flashbulbs into a frenzy! What a figure!*

The Versace Goddess…

*There had to be at least ONE Versace gown to ogle over…look at that thigh! I don’t find Lea Michele particularly sexy, however this
Atelier Versace gown IS! A good pair I say!*

The plus size beauty queens…

*That’s the way to do it, Octavia, with Tadashi Shoji’s
clever side knot. Looking gorgeous, girl!*

*Melissa McCarthy works her draped Badgley Mischka
gown to perfection, giving plus size women everywhere
a masterclass in glamour-dressing!*

The full skirt amazements…

*Kaley Cuoco’s Romona Keveza is probably the most
romantic frock I’ve seen this award season so far.
What an absolutely gorgeous powder blue! YUM*

*I should have really put Jane Lynch at the top with the
knockouts, but she fit here so well too! This David Meister
gown is what she should wear EVERYWHERE!*

The unsures…

*I love this Jenny Packham dress, don’t get me wrong,
but come on Angie love, it’s too safe for someone who
wore white Atelier Versace last week!*

*It pains me to be negative about Givenchy couture, but I
get the feeling Zoe is trying a little hard to be off-the-wall?*

*Now, Giambattista Valli is one of my favourite designers,
but I think this is a litte lost on Natalie. I prefer her in red*

*Love the Marchesa Viola, but maybe for your wedding?*

*I should love this McQueen, but it’s not right for Emma Stone.
It made me go ‘hmmmm’. Don’t think it’s the right shape for
someone who looks sensational in long gowns*

The ‘that’s too old for you’ ones…

*After her wow laser cut swan dress for the Globes, this
pink thing doesn’t come close. It’s also Giles, but not good for

*There’s something weirdly middle aged about this Valentino
dress. And Michelle Williams is NOT middle aged. Don’t do it
again Mich!*

The Golden Globes 2012 red carpet ‘Very’ best bits…

Wow. Last night the Golden Globes well and truly kicked off award season with a bang. The A listers were out en force in Hollywood, in their glad rags (and some not-so glad rags), showing off on the red carpet. I did stay up last night to bring you a few of what I considered the standouts, but after seeing all the pictures today, there are CLEARLY some I’ve missed out!

Here’s another little run down from last night’s red carpet.

***Zooey Deschanel in custom Prada – GREAT colour!***
***Emma Stone in fab two-tone Lanvin***

***Helen Mirren looking INSANELY gorgeous in navy Badgley Mischka***
***Paula Patton in daring canary yellow Monique Lhuillier***

***Sophia Vergara really stole the show in navy Vera Wang – a favourite***
***Jessica Chastain in romantic beaded Givenchy***

***Ariel Winter in my favourite purple – Dolce & Gabbana fabulousness!***
***I’m GREEN with envy at Evan Rachel Wood’s feathered Gucci!***

***Kelly O makes a splash in inky blue Zac Posen, not sure about the ‘do’!***
***Charlize Theron adds Hollywood glamour in Christian Dior***

***My gorgeous girl, Kate Beckinsale, in Cavalli***
***Mila Kunis representing her employer, Dior***

***Love a pink clash on the red carpet, in the form of Natalie Portman in Lanvin***
***Lea Michele stole my heart in a liquid Marchesa***

***Salma Hayek glitters in gold Gucci***
***Good girl Nicole Kidman, wearing Versace!***

***Another favourite, Tilda Swinton in powder blue Haider Ackermann***
***Meryl Streep in a dramatic black cut-out shirt-gown***

***Jessica Alba set off her complexion perfectly in this nude Gucci gown***
***Shailene Woodley in a dazzling Marchesa***

I few I wasn’t sure about…

***Tina Fey looks a bit straight up-and-down in Oscar de la Renta***
***Nicole Richie looks cheap in Julien Macdonald’s baco-foil gown***

***Madonna… just NO NO NO. What with your real face trying to
escape that new one, and your boobs screaming for release, and
the weird patchwork effect on the bottom of your Reem Acra,
just not for me. Non***

Golden Globes 2012: Elle Macpherson wears Zac Posen

OK, one more and then I really must sleep. Elle Macpherson, The Body herself, looking more amazing then ever – if that’s actually possible – wearing the most gorgeous gown from Zac Posen’s spring summer 2012 collection. In fact Zac has done incredibly well this year so far at the Golden Globes, as he does on most red carpets. This stunning off white gown, with froths of tulle at the base, was one of the star dresses on his catwalk, and now Elle has made it the same on this years red carpet.

*Elle’s dress on the catwalk…*
*Two other gowns from Zac’s collection I think would look
amazing on Elle…*

Golden Globes 2012: Dianna Agron wears Giles Deacon

Well I can go to bed a happy man now. I’ve seen big gowns, Atelier Versace and now Giles. Thanks to Glee’s Dianna Agron, at tonight’s Golden Globe awards, I’ve now seen the one dress from Giles’ spring summer 2012 collection that I was desperate to see on the red carpet, and Dianna does it such justice!

The red laser cut dress is probably one of the most intricate of all dresses shown for spring summer 2012. Giles’ attention to detail astounding everyone, and so did his obsession with swans that remained throughout, and on this dress too!

*Dianna’s dress from the catwalk…*

Golden Globes 2012: Piper Perabo wears Theyskens Theory

I’m not sure who she is (is that really bad??), but I’m kinda in love with her already!

Here’s Piper Perabo on the red carpet of the Golden Globes tonight wearing Theyskens Theory, from the spring summer 2012 collection. It’s another bold choice… a nude, see-through, big dress, and definitely a way to get noticed on the carpet! Similar to Sarah Michelle Gellar, it’s another not-sure-if-you-should-actually-like-it gown but… I think I do! She’ll sure show up on the pages of the magazines as either a thumbs up or down. Hopefully the former.

The People’s Choice Awards 2012 red carpet ‘Very’ best bits…

It’s hotting up in Hollywood. Tis the award season, after all. Which means lots of over eager stylists, assistants, editors, interns and minions running all over LA gathering last minute bits of information, dresses, hair spray, you name it!

And last night’s People’s Choice Awards was a great way to kick off the red carpet extravaganzas! Apart from Kim Kardashian’s non-appearance, and the fact that there was NON Versace present – a travesty for any red carpet – all the other starlets in attendance did a pretty good job, if you ask me!

Here’s a few of my favs…

*Usually quite cheap looking, Miley does this
David Koma dress proud! Sophistication with an (coloured) edge*

*My favourite of the evening, Ginnifer Goodwin
in shocking pink Roksanda Ilincic. An elegant statement*

*Lea Michele chose Marchesa, one of her favourite labels
(and mine!). Her best red carpet look yet me thinks!?*

*Emma Stone proves why every red-head should
don green! Amazing Gucci ensemble*

*Finally someone wearing a piece from Viktor & Rolf’s
spring summer 2012 collection. IN LOVE!*

*Jennifer Morrison, in Oscar de la Renta, does
Victoriana so so well*

*Drama and goth in one, Vanessa Hudgens’ Jenny Packham
gown is a stunner!*

*And can’t forget the Osbourne gals… Kelly working colour
and Sharon sparkling next to her!*
