I know I've said it in the past, but I'm bloody loving H&M at the moment. So much so that I think I have one of every piece from their autumn winter collection. I'm thinking they sneaked some fabulous designer in the back door, gave him/her a golden handshake, handed them a needle and thread and let them pour their creativity into the new range. I'm convinced! It's never been this good, has it?
I love it that much that I got in contact with Catarina Midby, H&M's fashion spokeswoman, to ask about their inspiration. Here's what she told me:
"We seek inspiration from people around us. People with an individual style. It can be really simple, but you can see when there is a thought behind the way somebody puts things together and even the most classic pieces can express great creativity. We travel, physically as well as virtually, to check out people in other parts of the world. Attitudes, culture, style, fashion magazines! When in the design process we put a lot of thought into cut, details, insides, function, materials. It's about giving a garment 'soul', a feeling of authenticity. Real clothes for real people. Longevity. Taking things a step further".
So there you have it. You may have a shirt on your back inspired by a Polish lesbian, or equally by a young, handsome, dark Italian hunk. Let's hope!
