Hey!

Welcome to The Very Simon G. My blog has been going for nearly a decade, but there ain’t getting away from me just yet! Come in for fashion, fun and everything in between. Enjoy!

They love No. 5

Isn't it usually the general rule that if you can't afford the expensive clothes from a favourite label but are still desperate for a slice of the action you go for the accessories? Or, at the very least, the fragrance? Think Viktor & Rolf's debut fragrance Flower Bomb - cheaper than one of their eccentric laser-cut tulle gowns and in a gorgeous bottle - or one of the most famous scents ever... Chanel No. 5. OMG this is literally the cockroach of perfumes, so to speak. Completely and utterly indestructible - in terms of sales and smells. And let me show you why:

  • The first fragrance launched by the house of Chanel, it has been on sale since it's creation in 1921
  • The company estimates that a bottle is sold worldwide EVERY 30 SECONDS
  • Coco only set out to send 100 bottles to her best clients - lucky she didn't!
  • "I always launch my collection on the 5th day of the 5th month, so the number 5 seems to bring me luck..." said Coco herself when discussing the name
  • Marilyn Monroe was asked what she wore at night, and was reported answering "Five drops of No 5"
  • Millions of dollars have gone into producing short film adverts for the fragrance, one featuring Nicole Kidman (estimated at £5.6 million to make) in a HUGE Lagerfeld pink dress and THAT necklace - all 687 diamonds of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTO4FHf8MBs) and the other with Audrey Tautou (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-ngh-9eeMo) which was released on the 5th of May on the Chanel website in honour of the perfume.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the smell, it is quite an 'old' scent, but who am I to comment! Women love it, it's official!
