My first big-up from New York fashion week has to be the mighty VB. She's a fashion designer, proper. Last season we saw a collection of perfectly cut, incredibly structured gowns that made whoever wear them look positively...well... statuesque. But we all know that a fashion designer worth their weight in industry gold needs to update, evolve and impress with a new collection - hasn't she done well people??
She didn't stray from her signature body-hugging silhouettes, and quite frankly why should she? - she's queen of bodycon - but what she did do is add fluidity and movement. We saw draping and asymmetric neck-lines, looser fabrics (jersey and lame) and a gorgeous collection of colours (redy-orange, gunmetal, blue, nudes and black). Jacquard and a pixilated print bought more interest into some of the colour combinations.
It was all still about the waistline; nipped in with ribbon, belts or a change in fabric, but what came through was the rather successful mix of fluid top halves and structured bottom halves, usually in a pencil-skirt cut.
And guess what VB will be wearing to the Oscars? None other than the gorgeous, nude jersey gown pictured above. Tres chic.
Love ya VB. Mazel tov on the new collection.
