There may be ash falling on most of the northern hemisphere, but in Denmark it's just balloons...for the lovely Queen Margrethe's 70th birthday celebrations.
I always declare that I'm not a royalist, but then why am I so intrigued by the whole institution? Well, dear reader, don't worry about me, you won't find me sneaking outside the Queen's bedroom. It is just that - intrigue. I could spend hours on Wikipedia reading about monarchs, about palaces and the like. And Queen Margrethe is my newest fascination, especially after I locked eyes on these pics...
Her celebrations were spread over a couple of days. The first picture above, with the floor length dusty pink gown complete with pretty floating petals, was from a dinner celebration and the second picture was the Queen on the red carpet for a gala in honor of her seventh decade.
She's always smiling in pictures. It's so refreshing. Our dear ol' Elizabeth seems to always look a little strained when flashing her pearly whites. Margrethe, however, is known for being incredibly down to earth and easy going. Maybe that's why she refuses to hand over the 'reigns' just yet.
She also, in my opinion, always looks great. Yes, she is wearing metres and metres of taffeta, but the green and pink look great on her, as do the very full shapes. And that fur! Jeez, if I wasn't a veggie, I might actually be forced to say it was amaze!
