As you all know today is the state opening of Parliament. I have to say that even though I voted (Greens, oops!), I have little interest in politics. I know that may sound incredibly ignorant and totally un-patriotic, but I do sometimes get the impression, and correct me if I'm wrong, that politics in this country is really a game filled with mostly white, bald, aging men who are all slightly on the fat side of thin.
We are now faced with a coalition government. Are we going to be happy with that? Course not! But then why didn't we all vote? It's a vicious circle. Anyway anyway anyway, I digress. The point of this post is to show you some pics of our dear Queen, HRH herself, heading over to Parliament, in all her royal getup, to deliver her speech which sets out the legislative agenda for the year ahead (more than 20 bills I understand!).
I must stress that I am not a Royalist either. I care not whether we have a Monarch. The 'does it/ doesn't it' make a difference to our country has been an ongoing debate for so long yet they are still here. I am, however, so utterly intrigued by the whole institution that I felt compelled to show you some images from today.
I'm the first to admit that I have read most books and watched most DVDs regarding the Queen, and at the end of each one I want to see and read more and more. It's a small addiction of mine. Forgive me.
Here they are. What a regal spectacle!
Enjoy.
