Last week, little Dhillon and I went to meet the undisputed doyenne of British fashion (no, not Dame Viv this time, but fingers crossed soon!) - Zandra Rhodes.
She's the colourful, kaleidoscope, don't-care-what-people-think-of-my-outlandish-closet kind of woman I hugely admire. She's 70, but a young 70. She's insistent on wearing bright clothes, having bright hair and keeping a bright, positive outlook on life. It's kind of an honour to meet her.
Zandra'a all about prints, as I'm sure ya'll aware. In 1967 she set up shop, The Fulham Road Clothes Shop, and in 1969 she branched out on her own with a collection that she took to New York.
Her designs have graced the backs of none other than Princess Diana, Jackie O, Liz Taylor, Kylie Minogue, even razor-tongued Joan Rivers. And guess what? Now you can own a slice too! Not only are Zandra's clothes stocked in this country (I actually wasn't aware *fashion ignorance* sorry), but she has designed a collection of some FAB bags for the new (AW) season.
Bold prints, lovely cut-outs, cute clasps and gorge little logo plates (in rose gold) are all included in the collection. Most of the bags are in muted purple/grey/slate/neutral tones with, of course, reference to her hair - all linings are fuchsia pink!
I caught up with Zandra and asked her what her favourite bag in the collection was. She said: "Ohh all of them, predictably, but I have to say I'm a fan of a bigger one (picking up her tote design) because when I go out in heels, I can only last an hour or so, and a big bag means I can fit my flats into it!". Words of wisdom there girls!
Look at these pics. I couldn't resist taking one of Zanrda's shimmery leg coverings. She's amazing. Officially in love.
Bag prices start at a VERY reasonable price of £27! For more info, click onto www.zandrarhodes.com
