Hey!

Welcome to The Very Simon G. My blog has been going for nearly a decade, but there ain’t getting away from me just yet! Come in for fashion, fun and everything in between. Enjoy!

The Very and The Whisperer DO The River!

As well as Dhillon and Butters having a love affair (what cute babies they'd have, could call them Pom-hunds or DachPoms), it seems Kristin, aka The Clothes Whisperer, and I have had one too! As you all know her fabulous Whispering shoots are always a huge success, and my Urban Outiftters one was so much fun too so we decided to team up and hit the High Street together.

Seeing as I think I've now bought one of everything from River Island, not to mention EVERYTHING in the sale, I thought it only apt to suggest the mighty high street giants to do our first shoot together. And our inspiration? KELIS! She was in store (the big one on Oxford Street) while we were there, picking everything she wanted. I was super embarrassed when I approached her and asked if she was the PR, I had no idea who she was until I walked away and actually found the right person! Celebrity spot fail!

Anyway, Kelis looked amazing in her slightly tribal print trousers, vest, high tops and bumbag combo, and we wanted to look even more amaze, so we headed out into the store and styled each other up! Here are the pics...

Enjoy!

All photos: Brooke Berlyn
Makeup: Sam Landesberg

Look one
On me: Tassel scarf, £12.99; grey t-shirt, £14.99; grey shorts, £24.99; cream boots, £79.99
On Kristin: Lace body, £14.99; black studded waistcoat, £12 (in the sale); Grey fringe shorts, £29.99 and tassel booties, £54.99

As you all know, Dolly Parton is my hero, so my first look for Kristin was Dolly inspired. OBVS ol' Dolly would never (or would she?) wear anything this young, but she was in my head when I was scouting the rails. Having said that, I'm sure I've seen a pic of the Southern belle in shorts like these. I LOVE fringing, and Kristin secretly does too! How Jenny from the block are the shoe-boots?!

Here's Kristin working that pout! She's DEFINITELY done this pose before, right?

I was desperate to camp it up, hence the brolly and the (just seen) Sex And The City 2 book under the arm!

I warmed to this outfit, it has to be said. I've been looking for shorts like these for ages, so thanks Kristin. And adding the boots made me happy!

Look Two
On me:
Biker wellies, £19.99; denim shorts, £24.99; denim shirt, £24.99; long anchor chain and brown cuff (price not known) and Union Jack bag, £34.99
On Kristin: Animal print vest, £12.99; orange print trousers, £15 (in sale); yellow platforms, £64.99 and hat and cuff (prices unknown)

Using Kelis as inspiration, I wanted to put Kristin in clashing colours and prints. She was slightly weary of the vest, but once on she loved it! If you want to make a statement, clash prints and colours, a sure fire way to update any outfit! Add a completely different colour shoe for extra uniqueness!
My double denim outfit was SO comfortable. I know that's a strange thing to say, but the shirt was slightly oversized and the shorts fit so well. The wellies were a size too small, but we won't tell anyone that!

Above: I love a camp pose don't I?? Well why not! Butters is just as bad. Look at her face!! I don't usually like anything too British, but this vintage looking bag was amaze, in fact I ended up buying it!
Below: AND...POSE. Kristin does a great job on the catwalk! She bought the trousers. Job well done I'd say!

Look Three
On me: Purple check shirt, £15 (in sale); print tee, £12.99; denim shorts, £29.99; purple loafers, £39.99; cuff as before and hat (price unknown)
On Kristin: Peace sign print maxi, £29.99; tassel clog mules, £44.99; red tribal bag (highly recommended), £29.99; head band and bangles (prices unknown)

We both wanted a relaxed, chilled look for this shot. I think we pulled it off! I bloody love the maxi I put Kristin in, she rocks the hippy-chic look so well what with the head band. Bring back the 60s we say!! With this dress it was important to accessorize well, hence the bangle cluster and AMAZE tribal bag.
Purple's one of my favourite colours, so although I look moody here, it is merely a pose. I bought the shoes, hat and shirt. Breaking up a check shirt with a tee underneath is a great way to not get bored of plaid. Thanks for that Kristin.

Look four
On me: Double breasted cardi, £29.99; cream chinos, £29.99 and scarf (price unknown)
On Kristin: Stud embellished printed maxi, £59.99; cherry print and bling platforms, £54.99; skull print blush scarf, £19.99 and horn necklace (price unknown)

Here's our smart look and for Kristin it was designer-copy time. The dress we decided was McQueen and the shoes are, quite clearly, Mui Mui knock offs. No one was sure about the shoes, but I pushed for them. Once on, they look a million times better.
For me, I had a bare chest under the cardi which was strangely lovely. I felt a bit like a posh captain of a ship, which was a new experience. Look how proud Butters looks!

Look five
On me: Light blue trousers, £29.99; pink tee, £14.99; suede boaters, £39.99
On Kristin: Black mesh dress, £25 (in sale); black mesh peep toes, £54.99; lace bomber, £17 (in sale) and horn necklace as before

Here's our final, and quick (hence one shot), shot. It was all about having fun and GOING OUT! I put Kristin in this Gareth Pugh inspired mesh dress and shoes. The lace bomber broke the outfit up. Kristin was unsure, but don't you agree she looks super-amaze?
I loved my colour-clash finale. The blue and pink really worked. Turning the bottoms up and adding the shoes bought a slight nautical-esque feel to it once again.

Thanks to:
River Island, everything in the shoot is available online or in store NOW
Brooke Berlyn who bought great vision to the shoot, YOU'RE AMAZING
Sam Landesberg who made us look all pretty, all makeup was MAC, obviously!
And Kristin and Butters for making it such fun!

Hope you enjoyed our first High Street shoot. Lot's more in the pipeline!
