OK, so here's the thing, I'm totally obsessed with Harper's Bazaar - as a monthly magazine it hits every spot and ticks every box for me, and I'm weirdly in love with Margaret Hilda Thatcher - it was her powerful woman approach to her work that won me, along with her handbags. When the two institutions come together, in such a vibrant yet perfectly ironic political shoot, with gorgeous Georgia May Jagger stepping into the Iron Lady's shoes, it really is a win win situation.
It seems there's a Maggie epidemic at the moment too. Not only is the extraordinarily talented (and my favourite actress) Meryl Streep starring in a biopic of her life, The Iron Lady, but there is a widespread yearning for vintage clothes that resemble Maggie's wardrobe... power dresses from the 70s, granny-chic handbags, pearls, pussy-bow blouses, chic skirt suits. On the right person, this look really is an emulation of Maggie's powerful silhouette.
Georgia May, it has to be said, has done Margaret Thatcher proud here. If ever there was a successful high fashion version of the now ailing 85-year-old politician, it is Georgia in these shots (by Terry Richardson) for Harper's US. The sitting at the desk with phone in hand and a picture of smiling Denis Thatcher shot is my favourite, and with the protesters holding boards that read: 'Thatcher snatched our milk now she's stealing our bread' is pure genius!
What a FAB shoot!
