With my love affair for Versace reaching all kinds of new heights, obsessing about the H&M collaboration in particular, it drew me to the fact that a lot of our most fabulous designers have put their hands to the odd bit of interior design homeware as well. There are those cynics who only see the designer forays into the soft furnishings world as a money maker, with not much credibility, but if this is the case then I highly doubt the outcomes would be as fabulous as some of the pieces I have chosen for my dream home.
Designer homeware is different to, for instance, designer (or celeb) fragrances for they are, with no disrespect, most likely a way to make a quick buck. I'm not generalizing, there are those personalities/celebs/designers who take it very seriously, but there are most definitely a few more that probably don't choose what top notes to mix together or don't really care what the packaging looks like, as long as it's flashy and shiny.
Designer homeware is very much a direct continuation to ones wardrobe. You like a label's aesthetic, their logo, what they stand for, and you choose to inject some of that magic into first your closet, then after some trust, your living space. It's an investment. A £30 bottle of too-sweet Britney Spears perfume is most likely an (crappy) impulse buy. The sense of pride when you've saved up for a statement dress or shirt can now be matched with the same level of admiration for a gorgeous rug or cushion.
I'm ready to invest, are you??
