A Royal wedding, it seems, is what our country, the UK, lives for. The hype of William's to Kate definitely helped it go down in history, probably a few times over, not saying that I wasn't part of the hysteria, I held a little Royal Wedding Party for God's sake. And Princess Diana's wedding day will be remembered forever - as part of the zeitgeist of the 80s Royal scene. Fergie's, also, was a big ordeal, as was her shambolic divorce and subsequent, recent behavior, but we don't need to dwell on all that do we?
What I really want to tell you all is that now, thanks to Kerry Taylor Auctions (the Mother of all costume and textile auction houses), you can own a slice of history... in the form of a replica Royal wedding dress of either Princess Diana or Fergie!
Diana's David and Elizabeth Emanuel gown pretty much defined the 80s wedding dress - big, HUGE puff sleeves and a massive train - and this replica, as described by Kerry Taylor, was : '...specially commissioned at Princess Diana's request for Madame Tussauds, of ivory paper taffeta specially woven by Stephen Walters & Son from silk produced at Lullingstone Silk Farm'. The high estimate for this gown is £65,000 and the low estimate is at £45,000 and includes replica silk bouquet, tiara and shoes.
Sarah Ferguson aka Fergie aka Duchess of York's Linda Cierach wedding dress is up for a mere high estimate of £8000. On Kerry Taylor's website we are told that the dress is: 'specially commissioned from the designer for Madame Tussauds at the time of the wedding which took place on 23rd July, 1986 at Westminster Abbey, and the dress was delivered to Tussaud's shortly after.'
