I love it when I get an email from Kerry Taylor Auctions. It's where I found my most prized wardrobe possessions - my vintage Gianni Versace silk shirts.
But today's email was a shocker.
A £70 dress that a collector found whilst sifting through a London market turned out to be a Lanvin frock dating back from 1945. The email tells us that:
"What also made the dress unique is that a miniature version of it appeared in 'Le Theatre de la Mode’ – an exhibition of the best of French couture which was displayed on dolls and exhibited in Paris and London in 1945 in aid of post-war charities... Jeanne Lanvin died in 1946 so this dress is from one of her last major periods of her creativity."
The dress was sold to a big European collector. Lucky person!!!
