Maison Martin Margiela with H&M: the New York launch event!

Yes lovely reader, as in me, in New York, with H&M, at the launch event for the Maison Martin Margiela collaboration.

Should I say it again? Me, in New York... No, I won't, but as you can probably imagine, I still can't believe I was invited to the launch. Hands down the best event, and city, I've ever been to.

The venue: a run down, nine story building in New York's Financial District. But don't be fooled, it was one of those oh-so-cool buildings with original features, cracked walls, a barely there structural frame, a hollowed middle... and lots of stairs. It was hard not to say 'WOW' on entry, look...

The first half hour was camping out near the red carpet, waiting there like distressed penguins, from one foot to the other, looking out for the celebs we heard rumoured to be showing up. Low and behold, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kanye West, Alan Cumming and Julianne Moore DID show up. Naturally, me and Julianne are now best friends. There were other celebs in attendance, but obviously these were the most interesting ones...

Right, down to business now. The building lent it's hand very much to the Margiela ethos and aesthetic. Each of the nine floors was designed to represent a different theme to the collaboration (which, as we know by now, is made up of signature pieces from seasons past), with crazy performance artists doing weird dances on big squares of white sand, video installations and spooky mannequins encased in the walls, almost eaten up by them. All genius ways to show off the collection.

As I looked round, there was bemused faces, but the more you looked and appreciated the different elements, the more you connected with the brand's, and collaboration's, ambiguity. Look...

As parties go, this was an amazing experience. A launch in its truest sense of the word, nothing like any launch I've been to. An attack on the senses. An event that got you thinking, got you interested and got you involved... what with the pop-up shop on the ninth floor, where I did indulge a little, but I'll post about what I bought later!

For now, take a look at these other pictures from the launch...

Stay tuned for more from the collaboration and my time in New York!
