Sarah Jessica Parker rolled out yet another statement dress on Wednesday at the amfAR New York Gala. This time it was a Maison Martin Margiela couture Spring 2013 gown in bright pink with a mile-long scarf thing round her neck.
She never conforms. She never does boring. She ALWAYS takes fashion risks. That's why we love her. Whatever your opinion on any of her outfits, she makes a statement, which is what fashion is all about if you ask me!
Here's what some blogger friends thought...
Sarah Jessica Parker is an icon, there's no disputing that, but personally I don't think this is one of her best looks. The dress swamps her tiny frame and although there's some interesting detailing, it doesn't feel very SJP. Hmmmm.
I know SJP is famous for experimental pieces, but to me this looks like someone just threw it at her. And the snake... oh the snake. She's all set for an hour in Peter Stringfellow's love nest!
When this dress was shown on the Maison Martin Margiela catwalk, the model had a bag on her head (see Style.com) and I don't blame her, but SJP kinda makes this work in a boho/hobo/Cruella chic kinda way. Bonus points for wearing Barbie pink, minus points for the beaded skunk.
***And moi...***
I think SJP can absolutely work a billowing dress, she's done it before and she'll do it again, I'm not entirely convinced that this dress is special enough though. Having said that, I adore the colour on her, and I love that she's worn it exactly as the model did, with scarf thing, sans scary mask obvs!
