London Collections: Men, spring summer 2014. What a mad three days. But oh so fun. Especially because Fudge Hair - the official hair partner for LC:M - invited me backstage to the shows they were working on. First stop, Sibling!Fast becoming the label everyone is talking about - for all the RIGHT reasons - Sibling offered up a fun-packed collection titled East Side Story. It was all about the gangs, but in this case, wide-smiling, neon-lurex wearing gangs, from baseball to 50s bikers. Sporting, as you can see, rather impressive quiffs and slicked locks - in fact, it was the return of the Duck's Arse 'do', see below!I spoke with Fudge's session stylist for Sibling, Syd Hayes, who, when I asked what he was doing on the models, told me:
Think West Side Story: real big, 50s quiffs, DA in the back - 'Duck's Arse' - which brings quite a nice niche to it. We're using the Hair Gum gel on the back and sides, but front we've used Root Juice - a Fudge mouse - to give it a real 50s flick."
I'm not sure how easy this 'do' would be to style yourself, but I can seriously see it working, day-to-day. I know I would try it, in fact I remember a couple of years ago I had a big sweeping quiff going on. The 50s are back boys!
We've had this really short sides thing going on, where all the guys have been buzzing them off, and I think we might now have a real thing of it getting longer on the sides and people start getting back into using a comb and some grease.
Syd is obviously championing this look!I asked him how easy is was to take a designer's inspiration for the collection and show and channeling it into the hair: "It's a collaboration between the two. They might pull out a reference and then you'll take a look at the clothing and the whole thing together - so here West Side Story was a huge influence. It's a real collaboration with the designer and hair stylist."Here's the pics from back stage. It was SO interesting to see how it all worked. And actually quite heart-warming to see Cozette - one-third of Sibling's design team - as the producer of the show, giving models their prompts to walk etc.More hair-spiration coming up soon boys!
