Just when you thought you'd seen Victoria Beckham win her continuous self-challenging game of 'How Good Can I Look?', she goes and totally knocks everyone for six. This, right here, is surely it. The winner...
I presumed Victoria was onto something great when she gave us all (well, those who follow her on Instagram) a sneak peek into what she was packing for this trip to Beijing. It consisted, not surprisingly, mostly of iconic pieces from her namesake label: bags, box clutches, chic dresses and tops...
But nothing, NOTHING was to prepare us for the above outfit. She hit us between the eyes, lovely reader. You may not like her, you might never buy into her label, but this outfit, together or pulled apart, is something of great... stuff. It's smart, casual, chic, glamorous, powerful, practical and seasonally spot on all at once. Show me another outfit on ANYONE that ticks all those boxes.
And guess what? Yup, it's her own label. Well, certainly that yellow sleeveless confection anyway - there's a delightful Victoria Beckham label stitched into the inside of that collar, I don't think the rest does, but that doesn't matter.
That powder blue next to the rapeseed yellow and the tan belt is just a colour sensation, and so cleverly put together. The nude shoe, the white top and that laser cut bag (also her own label) bring another dimension to the outfit. It means, lovely reader, that Mizz Beckham is not just a phenomenal designer, it also means that her eye for style and detail - whether you want to believe it or not - is undoubtedly one of the greatest in the industry.
A bold statement, but one I am very glad to stick by despite the bunch of haters VB has.
On the autumn/winter 2013 runway, it was one of the hero pieces. In fact, it was one of two yellow pieces shown, and much bolder than the other. It acted as a breather, a comma, amongst the black and blue of the rest of the collection. And wafting through Beijing airport, it's just as much of a statement. One that reads: 'I'm here. I've arrived. And I'm fabulous'.
It's time for you, Mrs Beckham, to start making menswear because without you, I fear I might never be able to utter those three statements above in the same sentence.
