Cate Blanchett is fashion's dark horse. Just when you think she's all conservative and proper, she goes and blows the socks off everyone wearing something so utterly, uber FASH and press worthy - remember that lilac and yellow beaded number for the Oscars in 2011? I very nearly fainted. And this is why we all love her. Other than her acting skills, obvs. She pushes boundaries now, and wears things she probably wouldn't a while back.Tuesday night saw the pinnacle (for July anyway) of Cate's sartorial uber-ness. This blush Balenciaga.Edition flower applique dress and dip-hem cape top is so mesmerizing, so incredibly feminine and romantic... it really takes Cate to new heights. But what does the blogosphere think?

Cate Blanchett is truly dreamy in this pale pink Balenciaga design. It's a tricky look to pull off - as the structured cape and dipped hemline could easily overwhelm - but Cate wears it like a pro! The whimsical, appliqued skirt is balanced perfectly with the fashion-forward cape/T-shirt hybrid, and I love the simple accessories, which keep the outfit grown-up and elegant.
Cate Blanchett – playing with proportions – in Balanciaga – I die. Everything about this is incredible. The nudey peach colour draping around her in minimal folding cape like structural simplicity. The delicacy of those embroidered flowers. The swept back updo and understated makeup. She’s an icon!

Now this is fashion in all it's glory, I don't think Cate was thinking about anything other than making a statement when she decided to walk the carpet in this outfit. She's definitely done that. Not only does her skin tone and hair colour complement this look perfectly, she's one of the few that can truly pull off such an artistic outfit without it totally taking over her. It's a thumbs up from me.
***And moi...***
I think you know how I feel about this. It's just draw-droppingly amazing. I've never seen Cate, or many other people in fact, look this good on a red carpet. And that's saying something. Not many people could pull off such epic proportions, but Cate does, with aplomb.
