Hey!

Welcome to The Very Simon G. My blog has been going for nearly a decade, but there ain’t getting away from me just yet! Come in for fashion, fun and everything in between. Enjoy!

Girls in boys clothes...

It's been a long time fascination of mine, sartorial gender bending. Women have dabbled in androgynous power dressing for decades, Tilda Swinton leading the uber fashion pack of recent years, and it was really in the 1980s club kid heyday that men were well documented dabbling in dressing up more womanly - Leigh Bowery, probably one of the more extreme examples, often wore self-made pieces that featured big skirts. And then there's drag, but that's a whole other story.Tilda Swinton androgyny and leigh boweryMore recently though, men's fashion has really taken on more female shapes, blurring the lines between masculinity and femininity even further. Long tunics, wide leg trousers, heck, JW Anderson sent full on halter necks with actual side moob (albeit very skinny side moob) and crop tops down his catwalk for next spring summer for us men.I have, for years, bought women's clothes for everyday consumption. Vivienne Westwood a firm favourite - her oversized t-shirt dresses make perfect tops for me, and a few sweaters from Ashish's women's collections too. I like mixing it all up. It keeps fashion interesting, and my wardrobe too, never mind the comfort factor. So when I saw pictures of Rita Ora and Rihanna, at a festival and shopping in Monoca respectively, both in looks from the menswear catwalks for next spring summer, 2014, my eyes lit up. It shows that their stylists are thinking outside the box. It shows that menswear is very easily translatable onto the female body, blurring those lines even more.Rita Ora and Rihanna in menswearRita chose pink flamingo print shorts and shirt from Katie Eary  - I told you earlier that flamingos were IN, I'll also be posting more about Katie's collection including backstage shots too. She rock n rolled it up with a strappy bra-top.And Rihanna wore a head-to-toe technology print look from Givenchy's SS14 collection, proving that trousers - men's trousers - make any woman look super powerful and confident. This outfit looks like a second skin on her. A genius choice, especially because from the catwalk shots, I didn't love this collection, whereas I've gushed over every previous one.Ciara and Cate Blanchett have also been spotted in Givenchy menswear of late too. It's part of Riccardo Tisci's genius - his collections are ultra unisex.Ohh... just a thought... maybe in a few years there won't be men's and women's fashion weeks, all collections will be unisex. This thought pleases me. A lot.

Yours truly, The VSG x
