Over her long reign as plastic queen, Barbie has had some fashion moments. Big poofy prom Barbie, little black dress Barbie, night on the tiles Barbie, Burberry, Chanel and Louis Vuitton Barbie, trashed and found in the gutter Barbie, even he of the sequins, Bob Mackie, has dressed Barbie in numerous show stopping looks. And now, thanks to Selfridges' fourth floor toy shop which launches this week, Barbie is getting some SERIOUS British designer gear to show off in.Yes lovely reader, Barbie is flying the flag for some of the leading innovative fashion designers we have here in the UK including SISTER by Sibling (above), Fred Butler and Nasir Mazhar. Heck, Barbie literally has a better wardrobe than most of us put together. SO NOT FAIR.Joe Bates - one-third of the design trio behind Sibling - said:
Along with Cara Delevingne we believe in head to toe dressing to make heads turn, even her (Barbie) pooch has that London style. Intricate and handcrafted by experts in our atelier, these outfits are pure couture, but only for Barbie. No reproductions allowed.
Nasir Mazhar commented:
I never realised how intricate it would be to recreate my collection in miniature for Barbie. It was good to include Ken too so he could chaperone her.
And Fred Butler says of her amazing outfits for Barbs:
I tried to make each one quite different so they all had a character and it's ended up looking like a girl band! The Origami one was the most satisfying because all the sections slotted together.
