"Ooo what you wearing?" is usually the first thing people ask me when I tell them I'm getting married. Maybe because they know I'm 'in' fashion, or maybe because, as one half of a gay couple, they think I'm going to immediately reply with "We're both wearing white suits. Big, shiny, sequined, white suits." I'm sure a lot of them presume that's what all gay couples wear to wed in. NOT THE CASE.I'm wearing Versace, the other half is in Vivienne Westwood. And we have a colour theme of black and white, meaning both our suits feature black AND white. We both knew exactly what we wanted to wear months ago. I guess we were lucky (although our bank balances weren't!).However there are many grooms out there who find it hard to decide what to wear. They do, quietly, have melt downs just like their other halves (be it a man of woman). I'm sure some of my girlfriends now husbands flew into panic and rage when they couldn't find the perfect suit. Behind closed doors, obviously. It's a hard decision to make. The one day in your whole life when everyone you know and care about are looking at you. Cameras snapping away, the most memorable few hours of your entire relationship. You want to look good! I get it. But what will compliment the other half's outfit? What will I feel comfortable in? What do you wear for a summer wedding? Or a winter one? WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT? So many questions!Well I asked Katie Steel, the suit buyer at ASOS, a few questions, to see what she had to say about the big day fashion choices... Me: For two grooms, what would say is the best way to compliment each others suits?Katie: Try to avoid matching suits as the cuts may not work for both of you. Stick to a defined colour palette and fabric specification then select a suit that works for you individually.Me: What would you suggest to wear for a summer wedding and a winter wedding?Katie: For summer keep it light, not just colour but fabrication too. A half lined cotton suit jacket with matching trousers works well. For the winter it’s always good to experiment with fabric and detail, try a heritage tweet double-breasted jacket or details like satin lapels and metallic finishes.Me: What's new at the moment for wedding dressing? Suit colours? Cuts?Katie: We have seen an increase in demand for prints and cut and sew details through our suit ranges, it would be interesting to see these used within a wedding setting.Me: Any other wedding suit tips?Katie: Making sure that you have the right finishing details is so important. Pocket square, tie pins, socks and shoes will really enhance your wedding suit. You can use them to make a statement or subtly bring your outfit together.
