Etro's fashion/art offerings: The Mirabilia bag collection...

Art and fashion are inextricably linked, there's no denying it. Designers use artists works as inspiration all the time, and now we are seeing this inspiration not as quiet references, but there, printed and emblazoned onto pieces in either entire collections or one-off collaborations.Recently we've seen the extraordinarily amazing Craig and Karl collection for bag geniuses MCM. 'Eyes on the horizon' has to be one of my favourite art/fashion collisions to date (check it out here). Raf Simons used some of Andy Warhol's early drawings as a continued theme in his autumn winter 2013 collection for Christian Dior. Prada's SS14 girl gangs had rather loud versions of street art murals from LA and Mexico decorated on dresses and coats. And now we have Etro's offerings. The Italian fashion house, synonymous for its rather fantastic paisley prints, have teamed up with Indian artists Thukral and Tagra who have created an eight piece bag collection - called Mirabilia - made up of four men's and four women's styles. The artists, who are famed for their pop art designs, have injected some colour and humour into some of Etro's classic bag shapes.I'm a little bit obsessed with these designs. They're so infectiously fun.ETRO T&T - 1 LOW RES etro 4 On their website, we are told that:

Thukral & Tagra blur the lines between Fine Art and Popular Culture, product placement and exhibition design, artistic inspiration and media hype. Their works comment on the globalization of consumer culture and the repercussions of this as it is being experienced in India today. While both playful and humorous, their works express thoughtful questions about the nature of Indian identity as it is articulated by Indians themselves and projected on to India by the rest of the world.

Thought provoking stuff. In a little interview with Vogue.com, Etro said: "Our collections have often been influenced by current art movements, so it's important for Etro to look at contemporary art... We are obsessed with nostalgia and we in a constant search of the imagery which is subliminal and both paradisaical."ETRO T&T - 3 LOW RESetro3etro 2  etro 5The bags are available now at Etro, 43 Old Bond Street, London, and online at etro.com. Prices start from £150, which is a bargain price for this kind of fashion/art.I found a series of really interesting videos on YouTube with the two artists, talking about everything from Indian culture today to what media they like to utilise. Here's what they said about working together...

I also found some of their previous gallery works from their website, which really did captivate me too. I would LOVE to see one of their exhibitions in the flesh. This is the kind of art I adore...thumbs_Hilger_Vienna_8 thumbs_Windows_opportunity-_TT_Thu8 thumbs_Windows_opportunity-_TT_Thu12
