It seems the God Mother of punk, and my favourite British fashion designer of them all, is hard at work! We've seen her amazing Climate Revolution work through her collections and various news items - her self-funded project to get us to behave more responsibly towards our climate, plus her Ethical Fashion Initiative Collection - a range of bags 'Handmade with love' in Nairobi using recycled canvas, reused roadside banners and bits of brass. And now Vivienne Westwood has collaborated with Lush Cosmetics and Johnstons of Elgin (a heritage brand, experts with cashmere). With Lush Cosmetics, Dame Viv has designed limited edition organic cotton Climate Knot-Wraps. Just briefly, a knot-wrap is inspired by the Japanese art of furoshiki - wrapping things up in cloth. Westwood's chic alternatives are trying to reduce the 227,000 miles of Christmas wrapping paper (bloody hell!) the UK throws away every year. What a number, huh?Obviously you can use them as neck ties and scarves too, as so gorgeously demonstrated by Vivienne here... Viv said of this collab: 'I always say, buy less and buy better quality - so that what you buy will last. These Climate Revolution Knot-Wraps can replace wrapping paper and will last a lifetime.'15,000 knot-wraps will go on sale in 891 of Lush stores across 51 countries, and online at www.lush.com. They will retail at £15 with all profits going to the Climate Revolution fund. So remember, KEEP HOLD OF THEM!
And the second collaboration is with Johnstons of Elgin, the cashmere, wool and tweed experts since 1797. This one is part of Westwood's project to bring together British heritage brands which use traditional production methods and skills, and preserving both.
So you'll find some rather fabulous pieces which include a cardigan, jumper and joggers, all using the Argyle pattern cashmere which is a print seen in Westwood's collections. Also, these feature her amazing cut and slash technique, first used in her spring/summer 1990 collection. There is also a fun tartan shawl and scarf, classic Westwood!
These pieces are available at the Westwood boutique at 44 Conduit Street, London, Worlds End, some international stores and online at www.viviennewestwood.com.
So there you have it, a busy old time for Dame Viv, who is still trying to get us to buy less, but higher quality so that we don't waste anything. You've got to love her for her huge efforts at saving the climate. I love her. Always have, always will!
