When I saw my friend Jane over at British Beauty Blogger talking about Versace make-up and how fabulous it used to be, I knew right then that we'll be friends forever. She's a woman after my own heart.Having worked in the industry for many years, her catalogue of make-up and beauty press packs is ginormous - I often wonder where and why she keeps it all. And then I saw this Versace GLAMAZONE makeup box from 2003 and I wondered no more.I have to agree with her... why oh why did Versace ever stop producing makeup? When it looks this good (and according to her, applies very well too), it's such a massive shame. Maybe if this makeup still existed, I'd still be doing drag to this day! (OK, maybe that's taking it a little too far)As you can see, the packaging is super fabulous and luxury - just like the fashion house itself. The iconic Medusa head logo features on lids of compacts and nail varnishes, and on the middle of the lipstick and lipglosses. Not only that, but it's also stamped onto the actual blush too, look...There's very little written about this makeup range online, probably because it was launched in 2003 so in web terms, that's proper vintage. I can find one article (on highbeam.com) that uses some quotes form the press release, but can only get two paragraphs before the paywall kicks in, and, lovely reader, I ain't paying to read the rest of it, sorry. Here's the little bit...
Versace's Spring/Summer collection announces that glam is back. Its new Glamazone makeup is described as "upbeat, optimistic and self-confident", a colour collection featuring "deliberately contrasting tones". Says Versace, it is an explosion of colours that play on hot and cold, with two shades of pink--pale and fuschia and two of brown--light beige and truly brown.Versace's Lips (16 [pounds sterling]) is a lipstick boasting a high performance formula with an ultra-brilliant finish, in fuschia and a deep, sophisticated brown, Wet Lipgloss (15 [pounds sterling])in pale pink and pinkish beige gives a shiny finish, while Wet Cream Lipgloss (15 [pounds sterling]) has a new high-performance formula and comes in two versions of brown and pink.
I know I'm biased, show me anything Versace and I instantly fall in love, but I'm sure lots of you will agree with me and Jane how sad it is that beauty counters around the world don't stock this rather GLA-mazing, glamorous, GLAMAZONE make-up anymore.Jane said:
Versace make-up was always the most glamorous counter in stores! It's really a shame that we don't have it any more - I keep hoping it might make a come-back. I'm so glad that I kept this set - it's a treasured possession - because it's such a gorgeous reminder of how beautiful the products were.
Thank you Jane for taking these pics for me, and introducing me to the world of Versace make-up, even if it doesn't exist anymore. I guess we'll all just have to buy the fragrances instead. Until Donatella finally comes to her senses and starts to make this range again!
