I love anything oversized. Most of my wardrobe is cut on the voluminous. Big T-shirts, long length tops, drop crotch and harem jeans and trousers. People ask why I love this shape so much. It's simple. It just feels right! Some people like skin tight Lycra, some like slim fit shirts, others, although don't ask my why, love skinny jeans. The other thing I love to experiment with is women's clothes. No no, I'm not coming out as a transvestite, and my drag days are far behind me now. I mean women's pieces that us men could get away with. This Jena. Theo top, for instance, is actually a lady's T-shirt dress.I knew I had to have it. It reminded my of all the Vivienne Westwood 'elephant' T-shirt dresses I have that I wear as tops too. The draped back, the big sleeves, the long length... it's all so me!Here, I'm wearing my Jena. Theo rib print 'top' with drop crotch black jeans from H&M, my studded Christian Louboutin Rollerboys - these were actually my wedding shoes! - and that amazing forest green bag, by accessory designer Anoesjcka Gianotti. It's the AG Berlin traveller, and I consider it the closet thing I'll own to a chic briefcase. It's my new prized possession. I fell in love with its very boxy, doctors bag shape, and that gorgeous green hue. I've got lots of man bags, but this one is definitely one of the most amazing.Anoesjcka told me that:
I've always been inspired by men's fashion for my women's collections. Suit tweeds, Savile Row cuts, vintage doctors bags and briefcases are enormously empowering for me and have been the inspiration of most creative processes I start for any collection. This makes it so rewarding... adding items to an industry I've taken so much from.
At first I started designing feminine versions of professional mens bags for women, but soon received so many request from men... so we started creating bigger masculine versions.I think it's super exciting that guys are moving away from the traditional browns and blacks and feeling more comfortable taking risks with colours and different designs. It's opening a whole new world of possibilities in men's fashion. That's enough to inspire a thousand new collections and that's exactly where I want to be at this moment.
