Few men would attempt a floral print suit at the best of times, not least at a big flashy red carpet party. But for Robert Downey Junior, this Dior Homme confection took his fancy. I'm in two minds about this look: I love the suit, and actually like how he's styled it with a plain tee (not those trainers though, it calls for a smarter shoe), but I feel like there's something not quite right. It might be a case of 'dad dressing too young and hip'. I don't know.Anyway, scroll down to hear what some blogger mates thought...

Where do I start with the list of things that are wrong here? First and foremost, Robert, you're attending a Dole & Gabbana party and you're showing up in Dior Homme? As for the suit itself, the jacket is a little small on the torso making him look big, and as for the studded high tops, well, not really pioneering - we've not seen this look before - at least others go all out and wear contrasting colours - Robert just wanted to wear his comfy shoes so opted for black. I just don't like the print either, I think it's one of those looks that will only work on the runway, here it just looks garish.
Robert Downey Jr. is one who normally doesn't conform to usual red carpet dressing, and I applaud him for that. Often pairing fashionable/trendy sneakers with sharply tailored suits, he is a joy to watch. In this instance, I think he might have pushed the boat out a little too far. The suit is boldly embroidered with the Lily of the Valley, thought to be Christian Dior's favourite flowers, which also form the basis of Kris Van Assche's Autumn Winter 2014 collection for Dior Homme. I feel the suit needs to be a lot more fitted on Robert Downey Jr., and whilst sneakers are his thing, those are really terrible shoes to go with the floral suit. I would suggest pairing the embroidered trousers with a sweater. The full on floral is just a little too much, even for a superhero like Iron Man.
I do like this suit, it has a sort of Japanesey/blossom/strict high fashion feel, it's just it doesn't work with the white T-shirt and other casual elements. It needs more minimal formality like a slim white shirt and smarter shoes and the glasses look like Bono's cast-offs from the 90s.
