The Very Review: The LG G3, reviewed by Mr VSG...

The LG g3As you know, fashion is my passion. Despite spending my entire life on my phone and a computer, I’m actually not that good at ‘techie’ stuff. So when I was asked to review the latest LG G3 smartphone, I knew exactly who to hand it over to for an honest opinion… My husband, who, for a gay man, is ridiculously obsessed with phones and gadgets. When we moved into our flat, I left the TV buying up to him. It took him hours to read through a million reviews, but suffice to say, we have the best ones now! So, here it is, Nik’s review…

After holding the phone for a few seconds it became clear that this is a phone for the fashion conscious. Yes, the ultra-slim, ultra-smart design places functionality and features at the forefront, however LG have worked hard to give the handset a premium, metallic finish whilst ensuring it is still lightweight.Over the years I’ve had a plethora of mobile phones, my favourites being the ‘Paris Hilton’ Motorola Sidekick and the Nokia ‘Matrix ‘banana phone, purely because of their ascetics. Recently though, I have been hesitant to try new phones. I’ve sworn I’d never have anything other than an iPhone, I’ve been an avid Apple customer since the first iPhone came out, mostly because of the simple operating system. Others I’ve tried have been clunky and complicated. To my surprise though, after using the LG G3 for a matter of minutes, I found it fairly straightforward to use. Yes, I missed my ever-trusty home button, but soon worked out that LG have an equivalent that is on their touch screen rather than being a physical button.I got an overwhelming sense that this piece of technology is extremely powerful. It comes loaded with so many useful apps as standard, all of which are ascetically pleasing and functional in equal measure.Initially, the most impressive feature for me is the screen; firstly it is huge and secondly it is incredible! I’m not one for gaming, so can’t comment on that aspect, however I am a Netfix junkie, and watching the latest episode of ‘Orange Is The New Black’ on the 5.5 inch screen in (better than) HD was all kinds of wonderful. The camera should also get a shout out at this point - I tried taking some pictures in a variety of different lights, and all of them came out crystal clear. The quality is amazingly high, and seeing as everything is about Instagram right now, it’s nice to have crystal clear images. I’d never need to take a separate camera out with me again.

Messaging is an integral part of everyone's day, and seeing as I’m a teacher so can’t make calls during work hours, an easy-to-use keyboard is a must. It took me a while to get used to this one, however when I did, it proved to be incredibly intuitive. You do have to use two hands when typing but I was able to compose a text message in a matter of seconds.Whilst I’m not ready to trade in my iPhone just yet, any phone that offers me a longer battery life makes me sit up and take notice. A full charge on this one seems to beat my 5S hands down. This is a serious piece of gadgetry and my review barely scratches the surface of its capabilities. Any Android / Google play users looking to upgrade should seriously consider this, the smartest of the smartphones.

Beautiful, large screen

Excellent laser fast camera

Premium, fashion-conscious design

Cons
