Hats hats hats. They've pretty much defined Pharrell's wardrobe of late. Those tall Vivienne Westwood options have become as synonymous with him as his major tune, Happy. What we all love about him is his unapologetic approach to most things in his career, like his fashion choices. He wears what he wants to.And I have to say, I love this look. It's daring, confident, bright and very 'him'. The Celine coat is from the women's collection, proving the lines between gender are blurring even more in fashion, and the clash of the blue hat just works! But what do some blogger mates think?? The Celine I love, it's a brave choice for a bloke to wear pastel pink especially as an overcoat, but it looks great. The rest of the look is perfect musician on their downtime. Except the hat. I know hat's are Pharrell's thing now but this does not compliment the rest of the outfit. Everything else is washed out and while the colour of the hat should make it pop it's just jarring in comparison. Sometimes clashes aren't the way forward.

Broadly-speaking, Pharrell can do no wrong. However, even for him this outfit is a little...daring. The problem with being able to wear anything and werq any outfit is that after a point you start to believe it. Now on style icon for the more mature woman Iris Apfel, this look would be epic, but on Pharrell it’s more ‘I found this look on the floor of my girlfriend’s bedroom and I’m cool enough to pull it off’. Individually, the pieces could work, but throw all these statement accessories and pieces together it’s way too little old lady for my tastes. All that said, the coat is gorgeous (though to my mind a bit M&S AW13): Nice try Pharrell, but not this time.

I love Pharrell Williams for always pushing the boat out (and you don't get much further out than a bold, boxy pink womenswear coat) but there is just too much going on - the hat, the vintage pins, the necklaces, the scarf, the boots - you don't know where to focus. I preferred the slightly cleaner styling he opted for when wearing it whilst meeting Suzy Menkes, but it still didn't work for me. If you are going to wear such a statement coat, it needs to be the only thing screaming - layer it on top of a neutral base. It's a swing and a miss this time.
