Here's my definitive, and as concise as I can be, roundup from last night's Oscars red carpet.
Enjoy...
*Chrissy Teigen wearing Zuhair Murad couture*
Personally the best dressed of the night. She always looks incredibly turned out, with just the right amount of glamour, sparkle and sexiness. THIS is how to do it!
*Emma Stone wearing Elie Saab couture*
An unbelievable colour on a red head, and a gorgeous fit on her. Nicole Kidman should take some pointers from Emma!
*Mrs. Eddy Redmayne, or Hannah Bagshawe, in, I believe, Alexander McQueen*
It's often the wives of the actual star that are best dressed. Chrissy above, and now Hannah. Loved every inch of this dress, it's stunning. I just think she could have done with a tiny bit more makeup. YES, I did just say that!
*Felicity Jones wearing Alexander McQueen*
From one amazing McQueen to one shocker. I HATED this. It's too bridal, or mother-of-the-bride. Get that smile off yer face, Felicity!
*Lady Gaga wearing Alaia*
Oh dear God, what happened? She was doing reasonably well for a while, but this is just wrong. The flappy sleeves almost touch the skirt, which proves that there is WAY too much fabric here, and those abattoir gloves need to disappear. NON Lady Gaga, just NON.
*Reese Witherspoon wearing Tom Ford*
I never EVER expected to like ANYTHING Reese wore, and although we've seen this shape on her a million times, I completely fell in love with this monochrome gown on her. Her body looks flawless!
*Keira Knightley wearing Valentino couture*
Again, I didn't think I'd warm to Keira's maternity wardrobe, I've hated everything up until now, but this embroidered gown is the stuff of dreams! I would personally lose the hairband though, it's a little angelic overload me for. The rest I love.
*Gwyneth Paltrow wearing Ralph & Russo couture*
I'm actually annoyed with Gwyneth, her stylist and the R&R team... on the catwalk, this gown was perfect, and that lovely rose sleeve detail continued across the neckline, completing the top of the dress. Here, it just looks a bit... meh. It's such a shame!
*Solange Knowles wearing Christian Siriano*
Always a controversial one on the red carpet, Solange once again killed it in this floaty trouser and long length top combo. The colour is gorgeous on her, and can you just imagine how this will look, flowing everywhere, when she has a kicking meltdown again? PERFECT!
*Jennifer Lopez wearing Elie Saab couture*
She usually saves it to the Oscars to go all out feminine, rather than super sexy, but something doesn't work for me here. The skirt is a bit too big, the plunge is a bit too booby and the colour is a little off for me. There was PLENTY in this collection for her, it's a shame she chose this one.
*Julianne Moore wearing Chanel*
I do like this, it's pretty and a great fit, but Julianne, for me, is a red carpet goddess, and this doesn't scream that. She won the Oscar too, and I would have loved to have seen her in something a bit more... colourful.
*Kerry Washington wearing Miu Miu*
Another slight disappointment... Kerry usually goes for full on glamour, with lots of bold choices. This is much too simple for her. There isn't much to say about it, which will probably leave it off people's best or worst dressed.
*Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti*
She got it SOOOO right! Wow wow wow, this is super amazing. Love the hair, love the dress, love the bag. Metallic magic!
*Lupita Nyong'o wearing Calvin Klein*
It's like her stylist couldn't organise a proper rail of choices for her in time, and they just decided this one last minute. Although I'm sure the pearl detail work took ages to finish, this just isn't up to her normal standard. This is a Golden Globes dress, NOT for the Oscars. I reckon Lupita herself might be a little disappointed.
*Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior*
This was a Very Mummy G best dressed, and I agree, from the side. Marion should have walked this way the entire evening, because it's only then that you get to see the fabulousness of this gown. From the front, I'm not overly keen. Like this, YES all the way!
*Nicole Kidman wearing Louis Vuitton*
Like I said at the top of this post, under Emma Stone, Nicole needs to start taking notes. Her hair and skin are much to pale to wear this colour. It's greenish, so going in the right direction, but she constantly washes herself out, and I just don't understand it! Nicole, sack the stylist love!
*Jessica Chastain in Givenchy*
I've heard a lot people not liking this dress, but I don't think I've ever seen a waist like this, apart from on Rupaul's Drag Race. She is cinched to an inch... and hasn't gone blue in the face from not being able to breathe. A good sign! And as she has an impressive bosom (that sounds all Downton Abbey!), the double strap works really well for Jessica. Thumbs up here!
