I can't believe the British Designers Collective at Bicester Village is six years old! I remember going to the launch of the first one, and even though it was great back then, I'm pleased to say that it's now a fully realised pop up shop, with lots of amazing discounted buys from some of Britain's best designers. What immediately hits you is the luxury feel of the shop. The shiny gold lettering, windows and doors, the white wash walls, and the giant tree in the middle, acting as half art installation, half clothes rail. And then, of course, the mix of designers this year has been amped up to include some mainstream brands - Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto, Sophia Webster and House of Holland - plus some younger, emerging labels - Ryan Lo and his bright knits, Holly Fulton and her incredible art deco prints and Thomas Tait's structured brilliance... There was so much to look at in the store, I could go on for days, but some standouts for me included: Holly Fulton and Mary Katrantzou's prints, J. JS Lee's oversized dogstooth, Roksanda's colour blocking, Eudon Choi's embellishments and Preen by Thorton Bregazzi's Darth Vader prints.Last year did see the first ever men's British Designer Collective pop up, and I think this one would have benefitted from having a small menswear offering, to tie it all up, but maybe that'll happen next year.I overheard CEO of Value Retail (the company who own Bicester Village) Desiree Bollier speaking about the British Designer Collective store, and she mentioned that people travel long distances so it's their job to bring them something new and interesting, it's an opportunity to surprise the customer. Having young, emerging talent is a great way of doing this... it surprised me to see Thomas Tait and Ryan Lo there!
This year's British Designer Collective will be open for six weeks, from 20th May. Get yourself down there!
