I've always wanted culottes, I never thought they'd be denim!
When the news broke that Ximon Lee won H&M's Design Award this year, it was big news. Firstly, he's a man - it's only been women in the past - secondly, he's American, which is new for the winners too, and thirdly his aesthetic isn't what you'd call mainstream.Let's just say he likes the over exaggerated, double/triple layered, almost other-worldly look. And it works for me!
FYI, this is an Alpha 60 top, and MCM hi-tops.
When I put these on at home, the hubby laughed. He's used to me wearing some crazy stuff, but he couldn't quite get his head round these. And I understand. They aren't practical in the slightest. And when just standing still, they do resemble a skirt. But I couldn't help feel the fun factor with them. There's loads of zips, all round them, which open up to reveal ever MORE denim. They're quite amazing. The tops, however, are much more wearable. This one, for instance, with its sweater front and striped neoprene-like back, is definitely my favourite from the collection. It lends itself very well to be layered - you have to really, unless you want belly out. I put this cream T-shirt under it, and teamed it with my Love Denim fisherman jeans, Superga shoes and spotty Timex watch. It looks like the collection has sold out now online, but you might be able to find some pieces left in selected stores.
