An amazing film. And amazing champagne you say? YES PLEASE!
When One Aldwych, one of my favourite London hotels, sent me an invite to join them at one of their Christmassy Film & Fizz nights last week, it couldn't have come at a better time. You know when work's taken its toll? And we're currently selling our flat, and had about 315 viewings that week, and you just want to curl up and eat a whole vat of pick and mix? Yeah, that's how I was feeling. So when the invite landed in my inbox, to watch Miracle on 34th Street - the original black and white movie - quaffing champers, scoffing popcorn, and THEN having a gorgeous three course meal at Indigo, the hotel's restaurant, the hubby and I jumped at the chance. If you haven't seen the film, here's the 1947 trailer...You can't beat a good black and white film. And then a slap up yummy dinner at Indigo (which is on the mezzanine level with great views of the AMAZING Christmas tree, see below), which for me consisted of the following...
*Heritage Beetroot Salad with caramelized hazelnuts to start*
*Roast cauliflower with charred sweetcorn, sea purslane (a shrub) with a red wine reduction for main*
*Pistachio and polenta cake with almond ice cream and mulled win sauce for desert*
It was thoroughly delicious. A tad on the small side, but then fine dining usually is. I could have quite easily devoured a double portion of that cauliflower! The hubby had celeriac soup to start, tenderloin of Suffolk pork for main and the same desert, and he made the same 'mmmmmm' noises as I did!If you've got a spare evening, Film & Fizz is definitely a great way to fill it. There are only a few nights remaining this year: tomorrow (Sunday 13th) White Christmas and Thursday 17th to Tuesday 22nd December – It’s a Wonderful Life. Can we take a minute to appreciate this year's Christmas tree please...
