I don't know if you follow me on Instagram, but if you do, you'd have seen my post last week of the window of the Issey Miyake store on Brook Street, London. I gasped. Literally. The above look, plus another similar one, were on display.Naturally I needed to pop in to try all the bird print I could on....You know there are those collections that you just can't stop thinking about? That make you click onto a website, just so you can have a close up look at the print? Yeh, that's what this latest offering from Issey Miyake's menswear designer, Yusuke Takahashi, has done to me. I was one of those annoying people for the shop assistants. I went in, grabbed all the bird print I could find, and holed myself up in one of the fitting rooms, tried one piece on at a time, came out each time to parade around, asked for different sizes, then didn't buy anything because of my now bigger mortgage.Boohoo.But even having it on my back was amazing!
This was the shirt for me. It's my birthday in a month, and this is the present for me!
Incidentally, this print comes from photographer Yoshinori Mizutani's photo book, Toyko Parrots. He studied the movements of a flock of lime green birds in his native Tokyo, and photographed them, day and night, against the backdrop of the city. Obviously I'm going to buy said book now. If I can't have the clothes, I need the prints!
