It's here! It's finally here! But, UK friends, I have to already put out a disclaimer: it's NOT available to buy in the UK. Yes, I know, it's rubbish isn't it? I'm actually so upset, because I would have taken all the plates and bowls for sure!But anyway, let's not be so negative on this lovely Thursday afternoon. Let's rejoice in Ikea's best decision since the famous hot dog. This one is genius.So yes, Walter van Beirendonck - the amazing Belgium fashion designer known for his completely off-the-wall designs that always tell a story - has created a collection for Ikea. Why they haven't done more of these collabs in the past is beyond me... it could be as big as the H&M ones!Rugs, plates, bowls, cushions, even printed tape... I LOVE IT ALL!
Of the collection, Walter says:
“Every collection is starting with research and the things I like to see together. When I started with the IKEA project, I wanted to handle it almost like a fashion collection. I really wanted to gather a lot of inspirations, think about stories, think about ideas which could evolve into other things. I wanted to tell a story.”
And he has told a story. A wacky one! So just briefly, before I completely lose you, the WONDERMOOI are the children of the clouds, who have made their home there for centuries. They are beautiful, weird creatures living together in harmony. A fantastic mix of shapes, colours, fur, feathers and skin.This story continues, but I can't. You can see it all here.
