Hey!

Welcome to The Very Simon G. My blog has been going for nearly a decade, but there ain’t getting away from me just yet! Come in for fashion, fun and everything in between. Enjoy!

Fashions In The Film

Vivienne Westwood said about the recent Sex and The City film "I thought Sex And The City was supposed to be about cutting-edge fashion and there was nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what I saw..." I love Viv, and although this is her own opinion, I think I must disagree! Every scene bought with it a new outfit from one, or all 4 of the girls, and every new outfit screamed pure drama and fabulousness - whether you liked them or not, you still had an opinion on them which shows the stylists doing their job properly!

Patricia and her team did an amazing job! The shoes, bags, dresses, tops, skirts, accessories were all breath taking. Field comments: "
I love when I see the four of them. When all four walked down the street, it was like a walking magazine editorial" and shes not wrong, they looked flawless! Field did an oscar-winning job if you ask me... over 300 costume changes in 148 minutes, thats some achievement! Each costume seemingly more stunning than the last!

Even if you didn't particulaly like the film, the outfits were visually stimulating, you couldn't HELP but look (frown, smile, wince...). Although some of them were quite OTT, I think a lot of people only liked the series, and the film, because of the ridiculous fashions cunjoured up by Field. She subsequently had designers throwing couture at her and begging for it to be adorned on the backs' of one of the 4 leading ladies.

Field wanted bold, statement pieces. Fashion that got people talking. Fashion that will be remembered. I think she achieved it. Bold prints where at the top of the list, with this explosion
of colour for example which includes: Miranda in a Maggie London dress, gold belt and Gucci heels, Chalotte in Ferragamo and Louboutin heels and Carrie in a vintage dress with Manolo heels and a Fendi clutch. Perfect!

Always a fan of matching vintage with designer, Field managed to really push the boundaries in the film- "I simply love being creative with vintage fashions, especially when I can mix and match with ridiculously expensive items and thrift store pieces". She also has helped in maximising exposure for new or relatively unknown labels; Gwen Stefani's label L.A.M.B gets a push with a faab sequined mini-dress at the start of the film and who can forget that interesting Timmy Woods Eiffel Tower bag that Carrie uses? Field featured it on her website which subsequently sold out within a few days!

Back to Westwood for a minute though... I think its time to pay particular homage to 'that wedding dress'. Although the other 5 or 6 dresses that Carrie show cases for the Vogue shoot in the movie are all stunning, the Westwood dress is probably the most 'fairy tale' like. Billowing fabric, ruffles, a stunning d'ecolletage - the head piece was a tad ugly, but it was just a stunning dress that did Westwood proud! So proud, in fact, that it was placed in the window of her Conduit Street store for a while, demanding the eyes of passers by. You can even order the dress for your very own fairy tale which was from her autumn/winter collection 2007-8.
