Hey!

Welcome to The Very Simon G. My blog has been going for nearly a decade, but there ain’t getting away from me just yet! Come in for fashion, fun and everything in between. Enjoy!

Viktor and Rolf = pure geniuses

If you do one thing semi-cultural in the next couple of months, go and see the Viktor and Rolf exhibition at the Barbican Centre. I didn't know too much about the Dutch duo before hand, I had seen some of their past collections, and as stunning as they were to look at, I never knew their motivation and inspiration - the exhibition explains and show cases everything brilliantly.

They have adapted and made some of their signature pieces from past collections into miniature outfits for small dolls where they stand, majestic like, in a gigantic dolls house in the middle of the gallery. The best view is from the up stairs mezzanine level which looks over the dolls house. As you walk round to view all the dolls' house has to offer, its easy to conclude that it is really their representation of their fashion house under one 'small' roof.

Walking round there are several booths, each with a large screen projecting a particular catwalk show from over the years of Viktor and Rolf's career and in front of the screen stands a few life size dolls with the most visually stimulating pieces from that particular show - all of which are jaw droppingly amazing.

From watching all of the catwalks and examining their phenomenal fashion vision up close, I can safely say that Viktor and Rolf, as a team, are both the most exquisite conceptual artists and the most extraordinarily talented fashion designers. Check out some pics from past collections below and go and see the exhibition running to the end of September!

From their Autumn 2008 collection... the duo
saying 'NO' to the fast moving fashion world.
3D phrases, gold staples instead of seams,
'Dream on' and 'Wow' adorned many pieces. One
of their best catwalk collections to date.
