Hey!

Welcome to The Very Simon G. My blog has been going for nearly a decade, but there ain’t getting away from me just yet! Come in for fashion, fun and everything in between. Enjoy!

The Holy Land (or not!) visit part one...

Hello everyone. Im in Israel, Tel Aviv to be precise. I am actually on holiday, not for work, but I thought I must bring you some of the action so far. I'm here with my friend Jamie, it's his big 3.0. birthday and seeing as he has never been here (and being a fellow Jew), he wanted to come. I last came when I was 16, so thought it would be nice to see Tel Aviv again, in all it's sweltering glory.

The minute we disembarked the plane the heat hit us, like a big, hard brick. I don't do that well with heat, but needed to brave it. Needless to say I've been melting slowly into my lovely River Island loafers, Christian Louboutin sandals (bought in the sample sale, don't worry) and my House Of Holland tees!

I have to say, and I know this is MEANT to be my Holy Land, but I feel as holy as Mary... Queen of Shops. The Israeli people aren't all that nice, we got refused coffee and cake because the manager couldn't be bothered to speak English, most of the city looks like a shanty town and the natives don't understand the phrase 'clean up after your dog'. We'd heard that there was a sense of gay liberation here, but as far as we can see the gay beach is the one that the dogs share, and looks more like the hard shoulder of the M1 (not that I wanted a gay beach, the thought of Speedos before lunch time scares me!) Sorry if I offend anyone, that's not my intention, merely my own observations.

Anyway anyway anyway, here are some pics from Tel Aviv so far.

Enjoy!

The window of a men's plus size shop. You don't see this kind of thing in England. Loved it!

We stumbled across the most amaze gallery here. I'm not usually one for galleries, unless something really catches my eye, but we really only went in for a bit of respite from the sun - the air con was calling us - and came across these rather captivating paintings! I really loved them. They are by Israeli painter and sculptur Menashe Kadishman. His works all relate back to his days working as a shepherd on a Kibbutz, and almost always feature the ram (or sheep, can't work it out). I love the abstractness of such a simple idea, and the colours too.

Take a look at www.urbangallery972.com for more of Kadishman's works, including an ebay shop to get purrr-chasing! Bag yourself an original.

And lastly, I never usually put pictures of myself up here, but really loved my outfit so decided to share. I'll start from the top: hat is from Tesco, tee is House of Holland, shorts are from Primark (new, £4) and shoes River Island. Colourful I know, but someone needs to in this city!
