No no no, your eyes aren't deceiving you, Lady Gaga hasn't decided to release a hip hop album. This is the hottest new female rapper, Nicki Minaj.
Signed to Young Money Entertainment in August 2009, Ms. Minaj is steaming up the billboards in America before even releasing her album! Not only has Nicki bought a whole new style of rapping to hip hop, she has also raised some eyebrows with a completely fresh and outrageous image.
Hailing herself as the 'Harajuku Barbie', Nicki clearly loves her clothes, and takes the relationship with music and fashion to new levels by injecting some much needed flamboyant colour to both industries. Never being seen in the same wig twice, Minaj always manages to shock, whether it be featuring in a music video with bright blue ringlets and a leather catsuit, rocking it on stage with Will.I.Am in purple robot gear and pink candy floss beehive, or even showing up in a Marilyn style Rochas dress, accessorised with chandelier necklace and a quaffed orange wig. Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with!
The bolshie Ms Minaj has completely made an impact on me with her catchy lyrics and crazy rapping style. Apart from anything, being an artist with an intense passion for pop-art, Nicki Minaj really is an amazing inspiration - what with her colour-blocking techniques, bright hair and animated facial and body expressions. I'm so pleased that someone so unique and has taken over the reigns of the hip hop scene, Lil Kim pales in comparison! She's bought something completely wacky and courageous to the industry.
