You can never accuse Helena Bonham Carter of fading into the background or not staying true to herself. Love or hate her style, the English actress embodies that true sense of eccentric British fashion. Here she is on Wednesday night at a Save The Children charity bash - 'A Night of Funk and Soul' - that was obviously the dress code too.She hosted the event along with her husband, Tim Burton, wearing a Vivienne Westwood dress, Lulu Guinness red lip clutch (buy here), garish sunnies, boots and a MASSIVE hair do.But what do some blogger mates think of her look? Here's what...
***Jane from The Womens Room***
"Much as I love individuality, eccentricity and a barking mad older woman - there is a limit. Oh dear oh dear Helena, the lip liner is a little bit Jodie Harsh, the hair too Diana Ross (and not in a good way) and while the glasses are totes fab, they really don't work with the rest of the outfit. That dress looks amazing and shows off her amazing figure, but the (gardening) boots - not so much.
Sometimes less is more and I would have settled for just the dress and bag, with simple hair and make up and a pair of killer heels - but then that wouldn't be HBC would it?!!"
"HBC certainly likes to make a statement. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's just terribly wrong. She knows that she'll never be the next Jolie or Lawrence in terms of style; however she looks absolutely FAB in my opinion.
She dares to be brave, to stand out from the crowd. At her age, who else do you know that does that? She takes chances and gives everyone else the two fingers. WERK IT GIRL!"
"I'm all for exerting your own sense of style, but there's a time and place - and a 'Save the Children' bash is NOT the place for slutty Bellatrix Lestrange. This is the woman made famous for owning what she wears, even when she opts for different coloured shoes, but here she looks awkward - and HBC NEVER looks awkward.
There's too much boob. The accessories - although purposeful mismatched - look like they've been stolen. And her shoes are like bizarre rubber bondage gear. It's a no from me."
***And moi...***
For God's sake people, the event was called Funk & Soul... do you not see that Helena is having FUN with the hair and glasses?? And she has fun ALL the time with her fashion too, which is why I absolutely adore her. What's more, she is hardly ever seen in anything but Westwood, whose dresses cinch her body in all the right places. Double points. She's a style icon of mine actually. Yes, I would go that far. Keep on doing what you do Helena. It's AMAZING.
What do YOU think of Helena's look??
