"Hi Simon, I'm Jodie, your stylist. I just wanted to ask you a few questions, get to know your style and what you like and then go from there..."That was Jodie's opening line to me on the phone when she called. Lovely, polite Jodie. I had never had a personal styling session over the phone before, that was until The Chapar - a bespoke men's styling service - asked if I wanted to have a go at their services. Yes, of course I wanted to. Anything new in men's shopping I want to know about. So I told Jodie what I loved, the designers I buy into, my sizes (eeeek, I wanted to lie, but thought it wasn't the thing to do!), favourite pieces in my wardrobe. I had a look on the website at the brands they work with before our phone call, just to see if there was anything I liked. I told Jodie I really liked some of Hentsch Man's prints, and I liked drop-crotch jeans in the hope they might have some. I thought I'd leave the rest a bit more open, see what she came up with. After all, that's the whole point of The Chapar... to help evolve and refine the style of the men in England. Then Jodie signed off, with all my info, and went shopping for me. It's luxury styling at it's best. On the website, we are told that:
The Chapar concept originated from a father and son who believed that the way men buy clothes is fundamentally flawed. Frankly, men don’t like to shop. They don’t like shopping on the high street and they don’t like shopping online... The Chapar Man is serviced by a team of Personal Stylists who learn everything they need to know about their client. Clothes are selected according to an intimate profile and are tailored to suit a particular lifestyle.
A few days later, my handpicked selection arrived, in a sweet little white box trunk...
Isn't it posh? That's exactly what I thought too. It's so posh. Layers of products, with orange (The Chapar's signature colour) tissue paper separating them. Shirts, tees, a blazer, trousers, even a pair of shoes! Now for the unwrapping to really see what was chosen for me. OH THE FUN!I love love love how it's packed and packaged. The old school rope tied round each bundle and the tissue paper. You don't get that in shops. Also what I love is that unlike most online retailers, The Chapar actually uses minimal paper and cardboard. I counted 17 items, if any other high-end e-tailer sent you that many products, it'd probably take a forklift truck to deliver it all. It's very compact and more environmentally friendly. Here's a rundown of what I received..

So there you have it. My Chapar trunk exposed. All that stuff in one delivery. I have to say, as a service, this is GREAT. It's quick, easy, eliminates shopping trip annoyances and can help someone really refine their style. How? Because if you don't like anything in your first trunk, then you send it all back, someone lovely stylist (maybe Jodie) speaks to you again and sends you another edit. It's how luxury shopping for men meets the time-poor money-rich world a lot of them (generalization, sorry) live in.And I do generalise with this because at the moment there is one thing that I did notice about Chapar... the brands they work with are quite... safe. By that I mean they are great for a guy who likes what he likes, not for the fashion-forward. Maybe in the future they might start to work with a few 'out there' brands that other customers could buy into. Or just offering them would be nice to see.In short, it's a great service that can help those men that don't like shopping change and update their wardrobes with good stock. Like I said though, some Westwood would be fabulous to see in the future!Check out The Chapar now, and sign up on the website for more info.
Dhilly liked it too!
