When Marks and Spencer asked me to take part in a male blogger style make over challenge involving actual M&S customers (does that actually make any sense?) I was dubious. Not because I thought I couldn't do it, but you hear of these type of things all the time when the customer is a nightmare, or smelly, or doesn't' like ANYTHING you chosoe for them.Luckily the man chosen for me to style was none of the above. In fact Sean was charming, lovely and up for anything, which made it really easy to be creative and introduce him to certain things, like the gorge knitted tie and small floral print shirt (below), that he would never have touched otherwise. Before I met Sean, actually the day before, M&S sent me over a little brief from him about him and his style, here's what he said:
My niece is getting married on 20th September in Ireland. My first family wedding! Fortunately (or unfortunately in this case) I work in an office that requires neither suit nor tie. At this point, I need to share that I'm dad to 2 young lively kids. so, in a desperate panic on what to wear, I approached my wardrobe. Upon opening the doors, I was faced with a mix-match of suits that were too short, too tight, or covered in baby sick. I still had my canary yellow suit jacket from 1991 - kept more in hope than usefulness though it often makes an appearance at Christmas, doubling up as a handy fancy dress outfit. However, now that we are getting our lives back, I have realised that my dad clothing needs to be updated! In short I need your fashion help, my wife thinks I just need help and I know if my kids could articulate the situation, they would think the same! You can see what I'm up against. Help me make my niece proud and my brother jealous.Sean, aged 40 & 3/4s.
When I met Sean, he was in jeans and a striped shirt. I made sure we didn't go near any more striped shirts for this wedding. "Something you wouldn't normally wear but still feel comfortable in" I told him. So I picked a gorgeous navy blue suit, floral print shirt and knitted tie. Sean picked the shoes, which I loved. He'd always wanted a nice pair of brogues, and I think they were perfect with this suit and for the occasion.
Here's Sean after, in what I dressed him in...
