I'm not sure about you, but when I use a face scrub, I really want to feel like it's doing something. I've read countless pros and cons for little beads or pearls or salt used in scrubs - some say they're all amazing, others say they can ruin the top layer of skin - but for me, the more sand paper-y the texture when rubbing it on my face, the better. My other half uses face washes, which are obviously softer and gentler on the skin, but I much prefer something a bit more gritty. To properly exfoliate your skin is really important, especially when working in central London where pollution is just EVERYWHERE!So my top three face scrubs: Firstly, the Clinique Face Scrub is probably one of the best I've ever used. The granules are much finer than any I've tried and really make for a great exfoliation. Also, there's menthol in there, so your skin feels fresh and tingly after.Next up, Lush's Ocean Salt Facial Scrub. This is a new one for me, and I have to say, it's really good. Not least because of the blue-y white gorgeousness - it does actually look like this in the pot - but also because although it's very salty, it doesn't feel harsh. Very refreshing. And lastly, Lab Series Invigorating Face Scrub. A great one before shaving as it removes all the dead skin and lifts the beard too! I would say this is equal brilliance to the Clinique one - it gives good scrub! This one works well for normal to oily skin.I've been told by a friend who works for a grooming brand that:
A face wash is designed to be used every day, twice a day to remove any impurities (excess sebum, environmental factors i.e pollution etc) from the skin. A face scrub is to be used twice/three times a week and the exfoliating beads in the solution are there to buff away any dead skin cells and stubborn impurities to reveal smoother, clearer skin. A scrub is also ideal for men who suffer with in-grown hairs after shaving as the exfoliation helps budge any hair that could be struggling to get through the skins surface.
So there you have it men, the science behind the two. Hope this helps!
Yours truly, The VSG x
