I know this might not be of interest to some people, but I feel I have to share some nature facts, just quickly:
Most people wouldn't know this, but the Blue Whale is the largest animal to have ever lived on our planet, bigger than any dinosaur. Before whaling became popular there where approximately 250,000 in the oceans, now there is approximately between 12,000 and 16,000. Its arteries are big enough for any human to swim down, its heart is the size of a small family car and it can weigh up to 180 tonnes yet it feeds almost exclusively on one of the smallest animals in the ocean - krill. About 40 million krill a day! We still know very little about the blue whale's habits though - I think it should stay this way.
General Sherman, a giant sequoia tree found in the Giant Forest in California, is the largest living organism in the world. Its height is about 275 feet and the volume of its trunk measures around 1487 cubic metres - that's a lot of bark!! The tree is believed to be between 2,300 and 2,700 years old, with not one wrinkle. In 2006 General Sherman's largest branch broke off and subsequently shattered the walkway underneath - its was, after all, 6 feet in diameter and just over 100 feet in length - bigger than most trees.
