We are here in Koh Phangan, after a 13 hour train journey and then to top it off a 4 hour boat ride!! The train Journey down from Bangkok to Surut Thani was interesting to say the least! We decided to go first class (obviouisly!), mainly because we got friendly with a travel agent and he got us a cheaper ticket (thats a bit of my mother in me, along with good parking techniques!!!) So we boarded and were shown to our first class sleeper - please please please dont get excited! it was more of a patterned cell than anything else with fold down bunkbeds. However, we did feel like Carrie and Samantha when they went to San Fransico on the train! We were fine for the first 3 or so hours, then inevitable boredom kicked in! We read, ate, drank, tried to sleep, played and sung to music, straightend our hair and nearly (not by choice, believe me) got raped by the guy who worked on the train - he was touching us and laughing and smiling! We were that bored we actually contemplated it! JOKE.
So we arrive at our chosen destination/resort (not so much chosen actually, more what was available). It was actually a gorgeous beach resort with a few bungalow things and was ran by a fabulous mum and daughter. The only downfall to the place was that there was NO air conditioning! Now, those who know me well enough know that I dont do well with heat (you may be asking why im in Thailand in general then - but shit happens!). Let me tell you, sweating is not the word! I'll put it in context - there are a few waterfalls on the island, but its so hot they have dried up - CAN YOU ONLY IMAGINE WHAT MY BODY IS DOING!!!!! I think i nearlly drowned Lee in the night!
Speaking of Lee, he puts up with a lot from me! Not only am i melting infront of him, but my broken toe hasnt helped. I have had my fair share of Diva tantrums, and with my D&G glasses on, i may even be mistaken for J Lo. Despite that, he was pissing himself at me when i was stumbling through the desert-like garden of our first resort with my back-pack on screaming when so much as a butterfly came near me! BASTARD. He even got a picture, so you can all witness it!
We decided to move places so now we are in Neptune's Villas which is lovely, a sweet little wooden thing with AC thank god! We had to pay for a week, so it looks like we are staying! Its very travelley here and all the locals are lovely. Even though it looks a bit third world, it is however very western and commercial. There is a massive internet industry here, every other shop has internet access, even the ones with falling down roofs and starving little thai women running them! Crazy! The one thing that gets me is you have to take your shoes or flipflops off when u go into any shop or internet place, and when you come out, its like a lucky dip of footwear - i have to be careful not to run off with someones stillettos, very tempting!!!
The full moon party was definately interesting. it was obviously very straight, apart from the fascinating Thai lady boys and the one 14 year old thai gay boy who was doing a very strange dance - he looked like a limp piece of spaghetti! Never the less, we danced and drank like the other 10,000 people on the beach and quickly made friends with a few thai ladies (proper ladies, still with all the original fixtures and fittings). At about 6am we went for a walk on the beach to see the damage. People throwing up, people passed out, people having sex, clothes and shoes everywhere, sick everywhere - like an ordinary night at the Abercorn! It was good and a wicked experience.
Our next stop is Koh Samui where i think we might stay in a gay resort. There are a few gay bars there, compared to none here, so we'll be a little more at homo. I'll update you all from there obviously. After there we will probably either go to another island ( phi phi) or back to Bangkok for a couple more nights to do the things we didnt first time around. Then, providing the weather is good (coz we have heard its terrible at the mo) we will go up north to Cheing Mei, then back down to Singapore and on to Oz.
